What can Leo Messi teach us about having a bad month?
Yes, it's been a while since the Copa America Centenario final. In case you missed it Argentina lost 4-2 to Chile on penalty kicks. Fortunately, no one tried a Panenka this time. Here's what happened:
In case you're crying again, this little girl has your back:
I'll stick to happier videos in my next posts, I promise.
Well yes, Messi missed his penalty. He wasn't the only one to miss. Vidal missed for Chile and Biglia missed for Argentina to lose the game. However, all the attention was on Messi. The best never misses, right? Think again...
After that, Messi resigned to the national team. He said he was 'done'. He said he tried but failed 'too many times'. Can you believe that?
Some days after, he was found guilty of tax fraud in Barcelona.
And if that wasn't enough his "Nemesis", Cristiano Ronaldo won the Euro Cup a couple of weeks after. Here you can see Happy Cristiano:
How does Messi recovers from this month, though?! That's what today's quick lesson is about.
Quitting is not the answer
Messi quitted Argentina's national team. Not only that goes against the fairy tale "never quit" mentality we have been taught, but it evoked panic in the sports community-- We will save quitting lessons for a later post. Nonetheless, what do his actions imply?
Messi is an idol, you either hate him but know that if he doesn't play, the game is boring, or you love him and you're still crying. Either way, Messi leaving is bad news.
I personally don't think he will be gone for good, but he may have found more important things in life than playing for his national team. Maybe, he just wanted to show people how much they would miss him if he left.
We will never know. I guess we all make rushed decisions and we then say to ourselves, Whoops! wrong call. Those are the moments that teach us that before we make emotional decisions we need to take a deep breath and wait at a couple of days to see how we feel about our decisions. That's the biggest lesson we should learn today.
In Messi's case, I think he will be back. He is in debt with himself. He might ignore it for a couple of months or a year, but he will return. However, he needs to find peace with himself first.
He will avoid jail time, which teaches us another lesson: choose a good and honest financial advisor!! Your dad is probably not the best financial advisor out there.
Finally, I think that Cristiano winning the Euro Cup is the push he needed to keep moving forward. He knows he has to demonstrate what he is made of.
It is up to us to choose who drives us further. Sometimes is our competitor, and sometimes it's ourselves. Just be sure to choose the one that will make you go farther.
Many of people think that Messi will not be the same after all of this, but I have faith that he will be better, just in a different way...
Peace Out,
Gabe
