Introduction
In this issue, we will look at COOKING as a new hobby or skill you can pick up. And this adds to your Skill Stack. There are lessons we can take away from the art of the culinary, and these can be brought in supplement our existing abilities!
Wondering how it can help? Read on!
Cooking can seem daunting at first, but with a few simple tips, you'll be whipping up delicious meals like a pro! And gentlemen or ladies that can cook, have another attractive dimension to them, no?
Here are three starter tips that every beginner cook should know:
1. Read the recipe thoroughly before beginning. This will help you understand the steps and avoid any surprises. I can’t tell you how many times I have started cooking, then realised halfway I am missing ingredients, even for familiar recipes! Doublecheck!
2. Make sure you have all of the ingredients and tools required before starting. This will help avoid last-minute scrambling. I was sent off to do emergency groceries before by my wife. Just saying.
3. Start with simple recipes and work your way up. This will help you build your culinary skills step by step.
Start With Simple Recipes
If you're just starting out in the kitchen, it might be a good idea to start with some simple recipes. That way, you can get the hang of things without having to worry about complicated instructions or difficult techniques.
There are plenty of great, simple recipes out there that are perfect for beginners. Start with something basic like pasta or chicken, and then work your way up to more complicated dishes. With a little practice, you'll be cooking like a pro in no time!
Get Familiar With Common Kitchen Terms
Cooking can be a daunting task, especially if you're new to it. But don't let that stop you! There are a few basic kitchen terms that you should learn before you start cooking.
Here are three of the most important:
Sauté: This is a French term that means "to jump." When you sauté an ingredient, you're cooking it in a small amount of hot oil or butter.
Braise: Braising is a method of cooking that involves gently simmering food in a liquid until it's tender.
Roast: Roasting is a dry-heat cooking method that uses an oven. Food is typically roasted at a high temperature for a short period of time.
Use the Proper Cooking Utensils and Tools
One of the most important things you can do as a beginner cook is to use the proper cooking utensils and tools. This will make your cooking experience much easier and more enjoyable, not to mention much safer.
Some of the most basic utensils you'll need include a skillet, saucepan, spoon, fork, and spatula. Make sure to have a variety of sizes so that you can cook different types of foods. You'll also want to have some fun gadgets, like a mandoline slicer or garlic press. (Get good quality ones. My cheap ones always break after the 2nd use!)
Having the right tools makes cooking so much easier, so don't be afraid to invest in some quality utensils. They'll last you for years and make your cooking experience much better.
How Cooking ties in with Life Skills
Food is Life. That, and being a GREAT cook will keep your partner really really happy!

Cooking can be so much more than just making a meal. In fact, cooking is a life skill that can help you in so many different ways. Cooking can teach you how to be patient, organized, and efficient.
It can also help you learn how to budget your time and money, as well as how to make healthy choices. Cooking is also a great way to save money and be more mindful of what you're eating, since you have complete control over the ingredients. This makes it possible to avoid processed foods and unhealthy additives. You'll also be able to save money by cooking your own food rather than eating out.
Most importantly, cooking can help you develop a sense of accomplishment and pride. It's a skill that you can use and build on for the rest of your life, and that's pretty amazing.
How Cooking ties in with Financial Advisory Skills
What? It does?
YES.
How?
Cooking is a solid way to improve your organizational skills, and develop a system for planning meals and grocery shopping.
It lets you practice PLANNING, IMPLEMENTING, IMPROVISING.
PLANNING: Getting the recipes, ingredients, tools, cook-times ready, budgeting time and expenses for it
IMPLEMENTING: Actually doing everything, while keeping to the instructions. Easier said then done when all the pots start overboiling at the same time.
IMPROVISING: When missing certain ingredients (Oops!), what can be emergency replacements? Google it! Some ingredients have a good alternative swap!
It’s a good practice, because shouldn’t you be similarly prepared, when conducting a client appointment???
The same way financial plans are discussed and drawn up, and during the implementation phase you get sudden changes imposed by clients? And improvising ways to deal with situations when these come up?
While the context differs, practicing any skills often, allow you to gain natural versatility. Different tasks, Cooking Vs Client meetings, but SAME SKILLSETS.
Ending Off
Cooking can be a fun, rewarding experience if you have the right approach. Personally, cooking helps me to de-stress! It is enjoyable if you love food, and love creating new tastes and experiences!
Remember the three beginner tips!
Finally, practice makes perfect! The more you cook, the better you'll get at it. Give it a few shots and you'll be cooking like a pro in no time!
-DISCLAIMER-
Clarence takes no responsibilities for any stove-fires or burnt products, or spousal complaints of terrible food. Clarence does suggest you plan for contingencies, IMPROVISE if the cooking process acquires… mishaps. Plan in time to order in food, for example. Or cook 2 dishes, one of which you are already familiar with. That sort of thing. Planning. Oh yes, the Fire Extinguisher, too.
