What to do in 2018?
When I was six years old I saw Neil Armstrong walking on the moon. From that moment on I knew that I wanted to be an astronaut. Two years later I got glasses. In those days astronauts wore no glasses so I had to let go of my dream.
Eventually I became a banker. A successful banker and my clients, bosses and most of my colleagues loved me. Topping the salescharts gave me a high bonuses and a precious Christmas gift.
Later the bank changed course. The bonuses and the Christmas gift were cancelled and I had to focus on the clients needs. I was fine with that and my clients, bosses and nearly all my colleagues loved me.

Last year something changed. Doing my job and being liked and loved for that did not feel enough anymore. I felt that a part of me was shut down. Ignored for a long time. Something important was missing to do my job as succesful as in the years before.
About a week ago I visited Amsterdam and heard a speech of a prominent business leader in the banking industry. She said:
'The pace of disruption in our daily work is accelerating. It is no longer of importance what you do because chatbots, computers and algorithms do it better. It is becoming of more importance that you can explain why you do it because a machine can not. Evolving from what you do to why you do it!'
This made sense. In 2018 I have to explain to my clients why I do my work and how I can help them. Using meaningful words, sharing expierences and being an astronaut with glasses. The years to come will be years of disruptive technological growth with huge opportunities. On the other hand it will provide chances for me to do what I am good at.
2018 will be the year where I start sharing me! (because no computer can)
I think 2018 will be great!
