What does it mean to “level up”?

When I first left my highly paid corporate job, I didn’t get it. 

Yes I’d watched employees strive, push and break-through to the next level, the next pay bracket, the next promotion etc. But it all felt tiring - I wasn't inspired, and there was nothing about working harder or later for a CEO of a company that motivated me to “level up”.

Not because my colleagues were uninspiring, but it just felt like that next level was never enough. And getting to the next pay bracket felt like an illusion. More and more responsibility, longer and longer hours, all for a small little pay increase, along with the justification: “we’re just not giving proper pay increases at the moment, you’ll have to hang on in there, wait until the next financial year….”

It seemed like the so-called “privilege” of having a more senior job title was enough to warrant more hours, more energy and effort and comparatively less reward. It all felt very out-of-alignment. 

And yet deep down, I had to believe that there was another way to “level up” in a career or a business. There had to be. This “work harder, grind more” model couldn't be “it”, surely not?!

As I left the “safety” of the corporate world, I heard the voices in my head getting louder… “don’t work for yourself, it’s too risky...too many late nights...too much uncertainty...recessions to go through...it’s not too late to go back to the safe corporate job, go back…”

And yet, I knew I had no other choice. I was already scarred from the corporate work ethic, I had to move forward, I had to find another way, there was no way I’d go back.  

And so I did. Step-by-step, brick-by-brick, I built my business from scratch. In my way, on my terms. I made mistakes (countless) and I made bad decisions (many) and I chased gold, shiny things to distract myself from my success….

I’ve launched things that have bombed, I’ve launched things that have sold out, and I’ve paved my way as a pioneer. A conscious business owner. 

Over the past 7 years, I forged my craft, collating learnings from my previous years in senior marketing, digital and business director roles, blended with advanced coaching, intuitive leadership and conscious business skills and I’ve helped 100’s of conscious business owners build and scale their businesses too.
