What is great architecture?
We often think the great architects are the ones who create buildings of beauty.
Yet it’s an incomplete view. Great architecture is mostly about resolving the conflicting demands of a client.
Often, the primary demand is to design something that will blend in and also stand out. Superficially, this seems like a contradiction, but it’s not.
The great buildings of today, seek to complement the environment but develop their own unique identity. The era of drab conformity is long past.
Like the people they serve, our modern buildings seek to be part of something bigger than themselves without sacrificing their individuality.
Today, we are announcing the 141 finalists for the annual Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards.
The work of the finalists is nothing short of remarkable.
In coming weeks, we will be showcasing how our industry is doing everything from building the world’s tallest timber commercial buildings and transforming an old convict gaol, to building a public park on the fourth floor of a building, and a shopping centre with the largest array of solar panels in the nation.
It seems the only limit for our industry is only one of imagination – and we are proud to be showcasing the dynamism of our industry.
As well, this week, we are inviting members to participate in our annual Member Survey – your chance to let us know how we can help you meet your goals and represent you more effectively.
