July 16, 1867: Patent for "ready-mixed" paint was granted to D.R. Averill in Newberg, Ohio. Previously, home owners had to mix their own paint using oil, turpentine & pigments. In 1880, Henry Sherwin & Edward Williams introduced first commercially available “ready-mixed” paint.
