What have I learned since becoming an IronMan?

Hello all;

With one Ultra-Marathon and one IronMan under my belt in 2023, I was pondering what are the skills you need to take on something so monumental?

First of all, for those who don't know what an IronMan is - it's a very long triathlon!

It starts with a 3.8km swim, followed by a bike ride of 180km & finishes off with a full distance (42.2km) Marathon.

8 hours will get you close to the best in the world, 11-12 hours puts you mid-front of the amateur pack & 17 hours is usually the cut off time, by which you have to finish!

So 'WHY'? is the first question most people ask me!!

Becoming an IronMan was always a dream, but something I never thought was possible for me.

At 40 I was overweight, eating badly, working far too many hours, definitely suffering burn-out & generally ignoring my health and wellbeing.

I wasn't putting myself first.

I decided to give triathlon a go; so instead of a 'try-a-tri' taster event, I decided to go all in and go for the big one. It's the best decision I've ever made and I can honestly say it has changed my life.

I'm fitter, stronger & healthier than I have been in 20 years. My biological age has gone backwards by nearly 20 years, but most of all - I've built a resilient, self confident & bullet-proof mindset.

How did I do it?

First & foremost, like any goal in life, it started with finding my WHY;

Your goal doesn't need to be to complete an IronMan.

If you're already a high achiever in life, then you probably already have the mindset. But whatever goal you want to chase, be that a health and fitness goal, a career goal, finding better balance in life, starting a new career or business, showing up for your family more - the goal doesn't matter; the skills and the mindset are the same.

My WHY was to prove to myself that I am capable, that I am worth investing time in & I also wanted to show my daughter that there is no challenge too big if you really strive for it.

HOW;

Once you've connected with your WHY, then it's simply about breaking down what feels like one gigantic goal into small, measurable & achievable mini-goals.

Identify & then surround yourself with all of the tools you're going to need and then start on the journey.

You won't get there in one giant leap, but if you move forwards every day, every week, and keep recognising how far you've come already, then the rest will take care of itself.

WHAT NOW;

For me, I'm now focussing on a new & even bigger fitness challenge (check out my post on the 'Arc of Attrition'), whilst building 2 new businesses and focussing on creating a life of my design.

Now that I've utterly changed my mindset & realised that absolutely anything IS possible, the challenges don't seem so daunting any more!

'SO WHAT' I hear you say;

I work with high achievers to identify, break down & then crush their goals.

Whether your goal is fitness related or not, I show people how to achieve what they thought was beyond them. You don't need to do an ironman, but you can learn the mindset of an IronMan and apply that to your wants & dreams.

If this sounds like you then DM me with the word MORE to learn how to absolutely crush whatever it is that you're chasing.

Have a dream or a goal you've been putting off? don't wait, lets get started NOW
