What I learned in 2024
2024 was an intense and transformative year for me. Every decision, every success and every challenge brought new perspectives. Here are the most important lessons I took away from this year:
1. Empty nest syndrome is reality
In the past, I laughed about empty nesters, but when this becomes your reality, it is a bittersweet time. On one side, you educate your kids to be independent and hopefully strong, and then when they open their wings, it hits you hard.
2. Delegate
This means creating structures, setting boundaries, and empowering the team to act independently. I have learned to clearly define tasks and ensure that the person has the right skills.
3. Focus
This year, I have consistently asked myself: Is it a “nice-to-have” or a “must-have”? Does it really add value? If something doesn't work, be honest and change it – without compromise.
4. Individuality is important
Coaching programs are tempting because you can work in a group, but I achieve greater transformations in 1:1 coaching. And that's how I will continue to expand my services. Mentoring and training in groups and coaching in 1:1.
5. Get out of the taboo zone
This year, I gave a keynote speech on the topic of menopause as a career killer or career booster. I used to freeze up when I imagined public speaking, but I have learned to accept the fear and take the plunge. The lesson: Growth takes place outside of your comfort zone. Preparation, belief in your own vision, and support from experts make these moments possible.
6. Writing is possible
2024 taught me that you don't have to have all the answers. I sought support to help me discard my beliefs about writing. The support helped me enormously. The realization: Asking for help is not a weakness – it's a strength.
7. Knowledge is queen
In 2024, I completed further professional training and am now an executive menopause coach, a topic that is close to my heart because I thought my career would be over when I went through menopause.
8. Community is important
On the one hand, I was in the Herzogenaurach Zonta group and at Proage events. Together, you are less alone and can achieve more.
9. Clarity is key
At the beginning of the year, I wanted to retire from my dream job at Adidas and focus solely on my career and leadership coaching. I spent 30 years in the industry, I love product development, I love apparel, but I felt like loosing my identity. And now, with a clearer focus and new leadership, I am in full swing again. I learned a lot about myself and can now better prepare myself for the future.
10. Health is the foundation of everything
Health must always come first – without it, nothing else matters. Because here's the truth: It doesn't matter how much you work. No matter how much you love what you do. Health comes before everything else. Without it, nothing matters. You need a team and family you can rely on. Realizing that it's okay not to have to do everything yourself.
Conclusion
2024 has (re-)taught me to set priorities, delegate courageously, and use community power. But above all, the most important lesson is that health is the basis for everything else. These lessons guide me as I move into 2025 with a new focus and clarity – ready to let my career and leadership studio continue to grow.
