What a Performance Coaching Model Looks Like.

With 2025 on the horizon, you may be looking to evaluate your team through a performance coaching model. So, what does a performance coaching model look like?

Firstly, performance coaching is centred around the science of behaviour and human motivation. It’s a powerful and transformative tool for increasing employee engagement and ultimately output.

The Science and Methodology around Performance Coaching

In simple terms, performance coaching is the process of helping an individual or team to identify their strengths and the areas which need improvement so that they can achieve their goals. It generally involves a four steps;

  1. Assessment
  2. Goal Setting
  3. Planning
  4. Implementation

This four step process works in all aspects of life be it for sports performance, personal improvement or in the context of a work environment, improving employee/work performance. Now there are a variety of different modalities when it comes to performance coaching but the core idea is always the same.

Help people to achieve their goals by equipping them with the tools and knowledge they need.

As I mentioned earlier, performance management and coaching is supported by extensive behavioural science and research. Without taking you through a scientific paper, the science tells us that various factors including the need for achievement, power, affiliation and autonomy motivate people. Then as individuals we are all motivated differently and what drives us varies. So, for a performance coaching program to be successful and effective. It has to consider these fundamental drivers.

Touching on the methodology for a moment. There is a vast array of models to chose from such as:

  • Peer Coaching Model
  • Directive Coaching Model
  • Grow Coaching Model
  • Group & Team Coaching Model
  • Executive & Career Coaching Model

There are so many models out there that it can be overwhelming at times trying to decide which one to choose. I’ll of course, say look no further and get in touch with one of our team to request a demo of WorkCompass’s AI Powered Performance Management software.

But you might be asking yourself, what are the benefits of performance coaching?

The Benefits of Performance Coaching

There are huge benefits when it comes to performance coaching. Here’s just a few

  1. It empowers individuals and promotes them to take responsibility
  2. It increase staff and employee engagement
  3. Individual performance improves
  4. Identifies and develops high potential employees
  5. Highlights the strengths and development opportunities for both the individual and organization.
  6. Motivates the individual to excel through tailored 1 on 1 coaching.

Ultimately, the benefits of performance management or coaching comes down to the amount of time and dedication you put into making it a priority within the organization. That old saying comes to mind “you only get out what you put in”.
