What Raymond believes about planning for Caregiving

What Raymond believes about planning for Caregiving

a. Caregiving is an emotional event that involves responsibilities for Caregiving from family and friends

b. Few influencers, wealth advisors, attorneys, or accountants advocate that people have a conversation about owning a long-term care benefit.

Many will need to have the conversation when people ask their advisors about their options with how to pay for caregiving expenses when Caregiving occurs, which is then too late to have an appropriate plan.

c. LTC plan premiums have risen, and benefits offered in plans are not as robust as those no longer offered to consumers.

This has occurred because of low-interest rates; policies purchased did not lapse, meaning people keep their plans, and people who own their plans use them for more years than anticipated.

Health underwriting was not as cautious. Carriers are more selective with whom they approve for plans. People live longer because health care keeps people with chronic health or frailty living to older ages.

d. It is misleading that the affluent can afford to pay for living care activities, and others may qualify for Medicaid. It is the shrinking middle class who must own an LTC plan.

I believe everyone needs to have a conversation about Caregiving, beginning with the influencers to advocate that friends, family, and clients discuss with competent people who know about these plans and what is available in their state. Each state insurance commissioner approves LTC plans. Some states offer more LTC plans than other states.

e. Why is it that those involved with Caregiving with family and friends do not advocate that family and friends have the conversation about owning an LTC plan?

f. It is doubtful there will be state or national caregiving plans which will provide sufficient home or care center benefits.

g. I recommend encouraging people to own plans that offer state or federal tax incentive deductions or tax credits for LTC premiums.

This may reduce the dependence on Medicaid to pay for care services.

g. Caregiving is about having choices with where you want your care and how Caregiving will be provided with a combination of family, friends, and paid professional caregivers.

h. Long-term care plans won’t solve your chronic health problems or frailty. These plans will provide choices with how and where you have care. It relieves the financial pressure on families who will be responsible for your Caregiving.

I don’t want the least expensive caregiving services. Caregiving is personal, and you’re not shopping for the lowest price for care.

You are not purchasing electronics, durable goods, or commodity products that can be replaced. Humans are involved, and if you want quality care, you want competent people and pay them a living wage for caregiving services.
