What is the right Cloud for your Business? Cloud Discussion with Pythian Experts..

In this article, I'll be discussing some of the core Cloud providers and their key features, including Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Oracle, AWS, and OSDB clouds such as Cassandra, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and more.

Additionally, I’ll be discussing:

  • Rise of Multi-Cloud
  • Agnostic Vs. Native Cloud
  • Trends within the Cloud and the Future of Cloud
  • Why companies are already Multi-Cloud such as Acquisitions, Hybrid Models

This article is perfect for you if you're currently analysing cloud options, looking at migrating to the cloud, researching multi cloud, or are a start-up looking to adopt a cloud strategy. Thanks to Paul Lewis (CTO), Whit Walters (Director of Cloud), and Jay Purfeerst (Director of Cloud and Analytics) at Pythian for providing some incredible insights and knowledge based on a combined 100+ years of expertise.

Let's get started!

First off, it was evident from initial conversations with Paul, Whit, and Jay that CTOs, CIOs, CEOs, and other leaders within IT prefer not to compare cloud providers. This is mainly due to the factors that come into play when researching cloud providers, including the size of the business, data types, the nature of business, hosting costs, future acquisitions, and more.

Comparing Cloud's is similar to comparing countries, all have something niche to offer.

Let’s look at the major cloud providers and their key benefits based on expert insights..

Cloud Agnostic Vs. Cloud Native: What’s the Difference?

The cloud computing space is constantly evolving. This ever-changing climate can create inconsistencies and confusion around both industry terminology and best practices. The terms cloud agnostic and cloud native are examples of those confusing terms. With the number of cloud agnostic and cloud native applications growing, knowing the difference is essential.

Cloud Agnostic Vs. Cloud Native Applications: What are the Important Considerations?

  • Security and compliance - Built with the cloud provider in mind, cloud native applications use the provider’s API for its security and compliance features. Cloud agnostic applications can make things a little tricky. The APIs between each cloud provider can be different, which makes it more challenging to have your application work seamlessly on different cloud providers. If you are unable to utilize your application's built-in features, then you and your team are responsible for your applications security and compliance.
  • Integration and portability - Cloud native architecture helps with integration and portability as long as the cloud native application is built for the cloud.
  • Continuous monitoring - When it comes to monitoring solutions, it’s vital to ensure that the software will work across multiple cloud providers—not one specific provider. With a cloud native solution, it's easier for a business to use the cloud vendor’s monitoring solution. With a cloud agnostic solution, you shouldn't rely on one cloud provider's monitoring solution if you are utilizing multiple platforms.  Using multiple monitoring solutions will ensure you know when each platform is having an issue.

What is Multi-Cloud?

Multi-cloud refers to  a company's use of multiple cloud computing and storage services from different vendors. They are usually under a single heterogeneous architecture to improve cloud infrastructure capabilities and cost. Multi-cloud also refers to the distribution of cloud assets, software, applications, and more across several cloud-hosting environments.

Future of Cloud?

  • IT leaders believe all clouds will have managed services as a standard offering
  • Increased storage capacity
  • Enhanced performance of internet
  • Modular software will be a priority
  • Internet of Things along with cloud computing
  • Data shows how future changes
  • Improvement in cloud services
  • Continuous security improvements

Businesses nowadays are seeking innovative ways to grow and accomplish their business goals. With the help of cloud computing, this business will keep on growing in the future. Cloud computing is robust and expansive, and will continue to grow in the future and provide many benefits.

Cloud computing is extremely cost-effective and companies can use it for growth. The future of cloud computing is bright and will benefit both the host and the customer.
