What separates a headshot from a good headshot?

Anyone customer facing or in prof services need a headshot. Everyone I've talked to knows that. So why would you choose us over another pro or even your cousin with a nice camera?

Some people think a headshot shows what you look like. Some people look amazing because they always look amazing. I look bad because I just look bad in photos. Nothing can be further than the truth.

You may stand in front of a white wall and take a photo, and think it's fine. The problem is how you look at yourself is not how a stranger looks at you.

  • The fact the wall isn't pure white - makes you look untidy or unclean.
  • The dark eyes from the downlights - you look tired or dull.
  • The photo looks a bit yellow or blue due to the lights - you look 'off' and uninviting.
  • The smile that you think looks 'good enough' for now - you look tense, forced, maybe hiding something or even angry

The visitor to your site doesn't think these things out loud. It just goes through their head subconsciously, and becomes a gut feeling you're not the right fit. The photo will make you look cheap, unprofessional, and drive away quality leads as long as you use it. Your competitors get all the first calls, and by the time they call you they've had 3-4 quotes (that are too expensive). No wonder you get all the low budget calls!

One little change can mean double chin or not. It can be the difference between a friendly professional smile and a nervous constipated look. It can make you look energetic or lethargic.

That's why we start with a chat to see what it is your clients are actually looking for. If they are seeking a figure of authority and you look like a jolly Santa, you won't get any clients. If they want an understanding approachable figure and you look stiff and formal, you won't get clients. We've seen people use the wrong look, because it was the 'best' photo of them. Completely counter productive.

Headshots are there to connect with your customer, and project the qualities they seek. They build trust even before the first contact. They are your first impression.

We love when after an experience, our client says they have a clearer view of their target, and their portrait looks so vibrant. It's the best reward when they say they've never liked any photo of them in their life, but they love these headshots.

If what you sell is not a commodity, then you can benefit from an effective headshot. Contact us for more.
