What Is In Store For Cybersecurity and Data Security in 2023?
We’re still early into 2023 and the year is already starting to show signs of turbulence for IT and cybersecurity teams. Tom McKay from IT Brew outlined three “elephants in the room” that IT and security pros should keep their eyes out for in 2023, pulling insights from Rubrik’s Head of Zero Labs, Steve Stone. One of those really stood out to us: the increasing cost of cyberattacks.
When asked about the trend, Steve Stone shared that the State of Data Security report from Rubrik Zero Labs found that 98% of respondents reported becoming aware of at least one attack in the year prior. “If you put any other business metric and said this happened to 98% of organizations last year, and of those 98%, 41% had reputational damage, we would be talking about that nonstop,” Stone said.
Luckily, there are solutions that help organizations secure their data from cyber threats and offer greater control of their organizations’ resiliency. Rubrik CEO Bipul Sinha shared with CRN, “we are the only zero trust data security platform and that’s what is driving our demand, because that’s what businesses need. They need to have a platform where you can only interact with the platform with full authentication.”
2023 is shaping up to be a big year in the world of cybersecurity and there are a lot of angles to consider. And that’s why you come to Data Security Digest – so let’s dive in!
The Weight of Cybercrime Is Taking Its Toll
More than 1,600 global cybersecurity and IT leaders – over half of whom are at the CISO and CIO levels – were surveyed in Rubrik Zero Labs’ State of Data Security report which explores the human impact of cyberattacks. The findings unveiled that 96% of respondents reported a significant emotional or psychological toll due to the current cyber threat landscape. Other key stats that stood out:
- 36% of organizations in our study dealt with a leadership change in the last year due to a cyberattack and its follow-on response.
- 5% of organizations were able to return to business continuity or normal operations within one hour of discovering a cyberattack.
- 96% of respondent organizations experienced negative consequences as a result of a cyberattack in the last year.
ICYMI, Steve Stone, Head of Rubrik Zero Labs, sat down on a recent episode of Cyber Security Decoded with former federal CIO for the United States government Suzette Kent to discuss the state of public + private sector collaboration: what’s working, where there is opportunity, the “cyber poverty line,” and more. The Big Cybersecurity Game: Becoming Unstoppable
Did you catch The Big Game this weekend? Though we didn’t have a chance to ask the two top teams about their data security strategies, rewind a couple of months ago and Rubrik CRO Brian McCarthy sat down with the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks SVP and CITO, Kim Rometo, and the NFL’s Denver Broncos SVP and CIO, Russ Trainor.
They discussed the future of data security in sports & entertainment and how they are applying an “assume breach” mentality to keep their clubs and venues resilient in the face of cyber threats–a topic that is growing in importance every single day. Check out the game-changing discussion here 👇
