What we have really achieved as a nation in the last 3 years...
A lot is being said about the achievements of the present government in the last 3 years, where it should have done better and areas where it failed to make any impact. However, for a common person like me, there is a significant change - we now have a Prime Minister. A Prime Minister who is bold and decisive.
A country that was devoid of a leader for many years now has a Prime Minister. A Prime Minister who need not take instructions for everything he has to do and is not a proxy. A Prime Minister who doesn't have to silently watch that his ministers are looting the country. This is possible because the present Prime Minister has the mandate of people, the mandate to build a better India.
Demonetisation has been the most significant step taken by this government and this has far reaching implications in the future. The invisible economy of the past will get merged with the real economy and this will have a significant impact on tax collections and value creation. I won't be surprised if tax collections on 2017-18 increases by 100% of that in 2016-17. I already find people willing to disclose higher income, pay taxes and sleep peacefully.
A drive on cleanliness was overdue and Swachh Bharat Mission has at least reminded people of this country that we need to be cleaner. Similarly, surgical strikes have carried a very important message - don't take us for granted, don't misinterpret our humility as weakness.
Today, I feel very confident about the future of India. India is bound to become better and better. There was a time when I thought that this country and its youth do not have a future and we would be lost in scams. Things have really changed over the last 3 years. As a nation, we are more confident now. We have realized the power of domestic demand and started believing in India's inherent strengths. With GST being implemented this year and constant efforts on Make in India and job creation, things will certainly look up. The journey has begun....but miles to go and yes, this Prime Minister hardly sleeps!
