Can We Use Holistic Medicine to Elevate Allopathic Care?
Burnout, stress, psychedelics, concierge, wellness, health coaching.
They’re all useful, timely, and (hopefully) disruption-inducing conversations.
But the root of the issue is this good vs evil battle between modern and traditional medicine and both schools of thought are guilty of being close-minded to the other.
Modern medicine makes money off more visits, more medications, and more vaccinations, so it would make sense for pharmacists to dispense more medications, doctors to see you more often, and you to spend more time in the healthcare system, right?
Wrong! That isn’t the way it works.
So let’s look at who is benefiting from keeping patients dependent on the healthcare system:
PBMs, Big Data, and pharmaceutical companies.
They have no problem with the system the way it is.
To the professionals who are being worn down by the day-to-day pressure of an overburdened system, however, change is necessary and the goal seems simple.
If you put fewer people into the system, the system requires fewer people to operate.
In short: manage the American people with prevention, not medication.
When conditions can't be prevented, provide non-pharmacological treatments that focus on hydration, nutrition, and movement.
When that threshold is crossed, provide patients with allopathic AND holistic support such as:
Not only will our healthcare professionals find healing for their massive burnout, but they’ll also be better equipped to pass their healing touch on to others.
And isn’t that why Healing Medicine matters?
We end each Healing Medicine Newsletter with a journaling or meditation prompt that will help you to examine and reinvent yourself as a healthcare professional
Today’s prompt is:
Allopathic or holistic: which do you use for your own personal health?

2yAbsolutely superbly articulated Blair! The coronavirus pandemic has highlighted the pressing global need for renewed focus on implementing practical, equitable & sustainable population health prevention programs. In simplistic terms, this would be better socio-economically than ever more costly medical interventions: medicines, vaccinations; surgery; investigations and litigations etc. But then there'll always be politics & vested interests of many disparate stakeholders to contend with.

2yThe integrative approach can often be the answer. Our bodies are a system. I use the analogy of a house. It might be structurally sound, but if the electricity doesn’t work right, or plumbing issues, or a crack in the foundation, then problems can compound. The entire system needs to be taken care of. And for us that’s body, mind and spirit!

2yEver tried to use a flathead screwdriver when a Philips's head is needed? If so, it probably didn't go well. That's how I feel about this conversation. For me its about the right tool at the right moment. Your examples were spot on and THiS conversation: how we honor the utilization of both tools to improve outcomes & quality of life, is what's needed for ultimate success.
