What YOU think matters most
“How” do we want to achieve our goals? Where should I make trade-offs?
Our values and beliefs play a big part here.
Our values encourage us to take action and make decisions.
Values can BE ANYTHING e.g., Your partner’s happiness, time with your kids and getting 8 hours of sleep (personal core values) or e.g., customer satisfaction, fair and meaningful work opportunities and returning a profit to shareholders (company core values).
Our core values are instrumental in decision making at home, at university or at work.
Values and Purpose go hand in hand.
What's Purpose?
The definition of purpose according to Wikipedia.
As a noun - The reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists. A person's sense of resolve or determination.
As a verb - Have as one's intention or objective. It goes on to say why you do something or why something exists. Why does one exist?
When we think about our values, write them down regularly and review them often.
We act faster, more consistently and enjoy a greater sense of purpose.
Harvey Lloyd once said in a fantastic discussion on choices that
"My values drive my success as I bring value to others."
But how we do choose our values?
Harvey replied - "A choice is merely a choice. But when we choose we must live with the consequences of that choice. Do these choices build our marriage, family or team? Materialism would have us believe that if we copy certain choices in appearance, acts and communications that we would be successful also. Our choices don't make us successful."
"Our values drive our choices drives our success as we bring value to others"
I see our values as the base foundation for OUR WHY in life, our purpose, the value that we bring exercises our purpose.
For our values help us think and act. Grow, learn and achieve success.
And when it is purpose driven, we add value to those we meet who are part of the journey we are on. Illuminating their path and ours and the journey is beautiful.
Where we are, Our Values, What we absorb within ourselves shape our actions and who we are.
WHY VALUES YOU ASK?
Why? Because then you know what matters to you; it influences how you think and guides you on the right path and corrects your behaviour;
Sara Jacobovici says "Our beliefs and values give reason and intention to purpose. We can have purpose, but only through choice do we activate purpose"
Here's a powerful true story.

She had regained consciousness now, she cut her umbilical cord with a sharp-edged stone.
The child cried out with life, she remembered her father.
Up until that age she had never known any love except that of her fathers, he spoke only his love through the songs he sang while milking the cows.

She stood up to a landlord, who exploited the women working for him. Little did she knew, her protest would change her life for the worse
The angry landlord told her husband, a lie to have his revenge of humiliation “You are such a fool”, you wife has been lying to you, infact, the child within her womb is mine."
