What is Your Learning Strategy?

What is Your Learning Strategy?

According to World Economic Forum by 2022 we will each need 101 days of learning to re-skill and re-tool in readiness for the work of the future. And this was said in 2018, before Covid 19 and its effects in accelerating AI and other digital advancements.

So what's your strategy? This strategy will determine whether you disrupt yourself or you get disrupted. Consider these 10 ideas that I have developed as you craft your learning strategy.

  1. Accept the fact that you are not ready for the role you may ( or may not) be doing in 3-5 years.
  2. Ask yourself: will a robot take my job? Then embrace change.
  3. Get comfortable with the discomfort of the ambiguity that comes with perpetual change
  4. Get curious to learn the trends of the future and emerging needs associated to your current and future role and work.
  5. Budget monthly personal time and resources to ensure that you own your learning trajectory.
  6. Do not solely rely on your employer to organise your learning for you- be proactive.
  7. Learn something you never thought you would ever learn- Ref: rely on your 2020 and current experience of working from anywhere.
  8. Hire or invest in experts to walk this journey with you- coaches, mentors, reverse mentors and alternative thinkers. Hold yourself accountable to them monthly.
  9. Invest 10-15 minutes daily to learn something that is not related to your current role or what you studied. Focus on solving the new problems instead.
  10. Stop procrastinating. Begin today. Now.

My Learning Strategy is a daily affair that includes writing and reading on the areas I want to be better at and being deliberate about what I listen to the whole day. I'm learning to manage whose audience I will allow myself to be. 🙂
