What's happening in tech: May

The Newcastle technology community is in full swing as we approach the halfway point of the calendar year.

The event scene has its pinnacle event for the technology community, with SlashNEW Conference pulling together over 400 tech professionals this week.

The jobs market has swung back to Newcastle-centric, with most companies looking for a hybrid approach out of their Newcastle-based offices.

The hiring landscape remains stable, and the frequency of tech events is consistent. This positive trend, reminiscent of the pre-COVID days, is becoming the new normal, fostering a sense of stability and continuity in our community.

/NEW is on this week - come say hello!

SlashNEW Conference is the premier technology conference in Newcastle, and for the second year in a row, it's sold out. We're looking forward to networking with a full house of technology professionals over a massive two days. We couldn't be prouder of our very own Operations Manager, Sarah Frazer who has led this team as Conference Chair, and all the other organisers, Jonathan Milgate , Klee Thomas , Cole Cornford , Tracey Hamilton , Lucy Jedlin and William Fardell , who made /NEW the success that it is.

If you were lucky enough to score a ticket, make sure you say hello to us at our booth. We'll be running a merchandise competition, giving away brand-new sticker designs, filming interviews with attendees and are happy to share our insights into the trends of the technology job market.

We're also looking forward to contributing to the sessions at /NEW. On day one, Director James MacDonald is hosting a panel that offers a unique opportunity to learn from two of Newcastle’s most senior technology leaders about their career journeys to reach their current positions. Sarah will also be on stage, both as an MC and running a session for a hands-on guide to increasing gender diversity in your organisation on day two. We'd love to see you there!

The Job Market Update for April

Senior recruiter Kyle Chapman is back with an update on the tech job market for April 2024. Last month, we saw continued low numbers of job advertisements, with large numbers of applications per ad. Remote work offerings continued to be non-existent, and contracting levels returned to normal. Hear about all this and more in the update, and check out our LinkedIn page to enter the hoodie contest!
