When Apple Steps Into Your Space, Beware
Its been documented many times what happens when Apple creates a product that then makes the competitor redundant. Its happened enough, that it has it's own term, getting 'Sherlocked'
Today, Apple stepped into the battery case market. This in itself is not act of getting Sherlocked by Apple, since of course they have been making cases for phones and accessories that compete with the other players for quite some time.
What makes this special, is the integration with the device that only Apple can do. This new case has additional battery status indicators that are at the OS level. The well loved competition like Mophie (A personal favorite up to this point) have great product, but won't be able to do the same level of integration that Apple has done.
Apple also is "doing things right" that the other battery cases have had trouble achieving. That being using the lightning connector so end users don't have to carry even more cables (usually micro USB) and the hated headphone jack extender so your headphones fit properly with the case on.
Now that Apple has brought product to market in this segment, expect to see quick revisions by the competitors. The bar has been raised, and the next reaction is usually to match the features as best they can, but at a lower price point. For me however, I've already placed my order.
