When is the best time to take a social media break?
Instead of racking your brain thinking about what, where, and when to post, why not think about the best time to not do any of that? Say what?? Yes, I’m talking about signing off, not checking your social media, not engaging, and not posting.
Sounds crazy, right? But this is JUST as important to our productivity as being active is. I think my past podcast guest on Rocky Mountain Marketing, Valerie Recore, put it best when she said, “...we live in a society that tells us that taking breaks is bad, you should not want to take a break, you should not partake in an afternoon off, you should not be going to bed early, you should not be taking a beach vacation, you need to be working and you need to be productive….what I find is when you take those breaks, you actually come back more productive. ”
So what’s the best time to take that much-needed, well-deserved break?
THE TIME IS NOW!
As we edge closer and closer to the holiday season, Christmas, and the New Year, now is the best time to step away from social media. Why? Because the rest of the world is too. Now is as good a time as ever to take some time to rest, enjoy the holiday season, spend time with your family and loved ones, and take a break from posting. Many businesses are closed at this time, people are traveling, and people are typically posting less and engaging this time of year anyway. So if you can pull it off, go for it! See you in 2023!
But let’s say you’ve got your December and January calendar all planned out. That’s fine if you don’t want to take a break right now. Stick with your plan and find another time to rest up.

WHEN IS ANOTHER GOOD OPTION?
Holiday weekends and the entire week of the 4th of July tend to be a slow time on the internet, which means it’s a great time for you to step away as well. Even posting less all summer long is okay. School is out, kids are home, and engagement is typically down anyway. Summer is a great time to reset and recharge.
Another good time to step back? When you’re flat-out tired! Burnout is a very real thing. When your mind and body are telling you to take a break. Listen to yourself and what you need. Self-care as an entrepreneur is so important, so take the time for yourself before you become too run down. Then pick it back up with a refreshed, more productive mind when you feel up to it. And don’t panic. If you are worried about cutting yourself off completely, take it one step at a time. Maybe limit yourself to just engaging and not posting, or the other way around. However you decide to do it, DO IT! I promise it will pay off in the long run.
THINK YOU DON’T HAVE THE TIME?
Still don’t believe me that you need some time off? In a podcast from this past summer, I sat down with Valerie Recore of Stride Productivity. She is a Productivity Specialist, entrepreneur, and mom, and in this episode, we delve pretty deeply into the importance of taking breaks, and why giving yourself breaks actually increases your productivity. Take a break, and take a listen.
And if you could use some help with your social media, or want someone else to manage it, let us take it off your hands! That’s what we’re here for.
