When It Comes to AI Adoption, It's Critical to Meet People Where They Are and Help Them Get to Where They Want to Be
I recently returned from a trip to some of the most breathtaking spots in British Columbia and Alberta, including the adventurous Tourism Golden , the serene Lac Le Jeune Resort near Tourism Kamloops , the vibrant Tourism Kelowna and Okanagan Valley, and the majestic Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge in Kananaskis. While the scenery was awe-inspiring, what truly struck me was the consistent curiosity and desire for innovation among the people I met, especially when it comes to AI.
From conversations with tourism operators to DMO staff, it is clear that there's a strong interest in leveraging generative AI to enhance business operations. However, there is also a significant challenge: these tourism professionals are incredibly busy, juggling numerous priorities in their day-to-day operations. While they see the potential of AI, finding the time and resources to integrate it into their workflows can seem daunting.
This is where a thoughtful approach to AI adoption becomes crucial.
AI should quickly add value and enhance performance, even if it's just one or two tasks at a time. The key to making AI adoption stick is making its uses as practical as possible.

The good news? Many of AI's initial value unlocks are straightforward to implement. Once people experience the benefits, they quickly adapt to using AI for those tasks that provide immediate rewards. In many cases, I personally can't imagine doing some tasks without AI ever again and at Tourism AI Network, we believe this will be the experience of many tourism professionals over time.
However, to unlock AI's full potential beyond those first few use cases, it's essential to develop industry-specific intelligence and share it widely. That's exactly why the Tourism AI Network was created. By focusing on the tourism sector, the network gains deep knowledge about the tasks that can be intelligently automated and makes that collective wisdom accessible to more people through various channels.
This experience reminded me of the importance of getting out from behind the computer and connecting with people on the ground. Everyone's workday looks different, and it's vital to meet people where they are. That's why the Tourism AI Network is introducing free "how-to" videos and microlearning opportunities in its weekly newsletter and other content channels. Our goal is to make AI practices specific to tourism approachable and widely available to all tourism professionals.
If you're interested in staying in the loop and being part of this exciting journey, I invite you to join the Tourism AI Network Community For Free.
