When the feedback hits hard …

The tale of leadership goes through many ups and downs. Especially on the corporate sector where they want to hang on to the session called “feedback”.....sounds interesting and scary at the same time.

So what exactly you do when you are on the receiving end of things . Even before you go for this session have an open mind makes things better and easier to receive.

'Expect nothing' even when you know how great your Oscar winning performance for this year has been. Be relaxed and focus on the discussion because it can take a lethal turn now on !

Why entering into such discussions with no expectations helps because it sets you apart. There is nothing you are looking forward to and there is nothing you want to hear specifically. You are just there as a part of the process just a mute spectator hearing it unfold… your traverse through other pair of eyes and a mind behind that …!

The important part of feedback is about how the other/ line manager feels about you about this part of your life 'your job' and not about your whole world. The growing suspicion about yourself (your competencies) based on these comments can make you feel less confident. This is only possible if your whole world is pivotal on this aspect of feedback on one aspect of you your job by this one person. Which is nothing more than being delusional….be alert you can be a part of this trap anytime.

Feedbacks are there to help but being open and receptive creates a world of difference. It can be a guiding force if there is acceptability and it can be just taken with a pinch of salt. Everything is left for the receiver to make something out of this view point …

Don’t let it hit you too hard …just take it slow and easy …breathe..
