When my storytelling doesn't involve data, it tends to involve car chases and shoot-outs instead...

In many ways, the timeline of my fiction writing journey also tracks my broader journey in Hong Kong. Though the thought of giving fiction a go first struck me while I was still in South Africa writing credit strategy blogs, and though I technically started writing Drachen while I was still living in Denmark, it was only after joining the HKWC that I found a way to turn a vague idea into something completable—thanks to the support and insight of people like Peter Humphreys, who was the ideal combination of writing mentor and drinking buddy, and Doug Berman and Simon Berry.

Unfortunately for it, my fiction writing journey also tracks the broader journey of my life, leaving it squeezed by the demands of a growing family and a 'growing' day job. That’s why it is only now, more than three years after my first book came out, that we're seeing the follow-up - Butterfly Hill.

Set in Hong Kong, in the hills above the village in which I live, Butterfly Hill is an action/ adventure novel that is frequently compared in style to the Indiana Jones movies (the original three I hope). In fact, five out of the seven editorial reviews I have received to date make that exact comparison.

“…the pursuit of his goal leads Hiko through a series of ancient shrines filled with Indiana Jones style traps. The tension ramps up as the secret society guarding these shrines becomes aware of the threat and all parties now face two enemies rather than one…”

Ad while that's not 'the next great American novel' sort of feedback, I'm happy with it. When I start any book it is with one simple ambition in mind: the end product should be suited for a long-haul plane flight. By which I mean it should be engaging enough to keep your attention while you’re tired, and also easy-reading enough to follow while you’re tired.

I’m confident that Butterfly Hill walks this line and from today you can buy a copy in the format of your choice at Amazon to see if you agree. Ebooks and audiobooks are obviously more convenient for many of us, but do consider the paperback version, too, if for no other reason than the fact it comes wrapped in Adam Hill's incredible cover art.

Reading a truly exciting book can feel like a full-contact sport, and there are plenty of memorable hits in this thrilling and unpredictable novel.”

And for those with an engineering mindset, perhaps, who might prefer to read a series in order, you can also find Drachen, Butterfly Hill’s equally high-paced predecessor, here That comes in paperback and audio formats, too, but in this case since the ebook is currently free to download that is probably the best way to get involved.
