When opportunity doesn't knock, build a door.

When opportunity doesn't knock, build a door.

In one of the job when I was fired, I got really dejected. I again went to the same organization and met MD directly asking why I was fired. He said we are looking for bit mediocre person considering other staff member caliber. Then I went to many seniors from the same organization and they given a real feed-back about my job, how the gap developed between them and me due to personality, education, communication etc. And I learn a lesson of my life.

  • Ask for feedback: If you interviewed for a position but didn't receive feedback, ask the hiring manager why you weren't chosen. You can use this information to improve your next applications and interviews.
  • Refine your search: You might realize that the role wasn't the right fit for you, even though it was disappointing to be rejected.
  • Self-reflect: Remind yourself of your strengths and accomplishments, and replace self-doubt with positive statements.
  • Accept the rejection: Don't take it personally, and don't dwell on the situation.
  • Build resilience: Explore the reasons for the rejection to help you build resilience for future setbacks.
  • Stay motivated: Focus on your end goal and keep applying.
  • Continue networking: Stay in touch with contacts you made during the interview process. Networking can lead to future opportunities.
  • Get support: Talk to friends and family, or join a job seeker support group.
  • Improve your application materials: Get feedback from experts, adjust your approach and language, and strengthen your LinkedIn profile.

Study organization's culture, way of working and if suitable then only apply in that organization. More than that never think small about oneself.

By the way, I got again job offer in the same organization. But then I moved on in my career.

Insightful thought, Rajan! Indeed, opportunities often come to those who actively prepare for them. Creating pathways, instead of waiting for circumstances to align, reflects true entrepreneurial spirit and leadership. Thank you for sharing this perspective—it's a reminder to be proactive and resourceful in shaping our future. #iitdoindia
