When will we become the "United States of America"in a Real World?

I normally write an article just to give you the news and information about the topic. There are times that I will write about something and put my own opinion into the article when I feel it necessary.

These are one of those times. I am writing this as being part of the media, It was announced about the shooting of Terence Crutcher by Tulsa police. Due to current technology, the video of this shooting was captured by the video cameras from both the dashboards of the police vehicle and also the police helicopter. It was stated that the police were heading towards another possible situation when they noticed Terence Crutcher's vehicle in the middle of the road. They stopped and questioned him about the situation. I don't know the conversation between Mr. Crutcher and the police but in the video we can see that he is walking towards his car with his hands up. Instead of using a taser to take Mr. Crutcher down, they shot him instead. While laying there for only 2 minutes, Mr. Crutcher bleeds out and dies while on video.

I will not take judgement based on the video even though statistics have shown that Tulsa has high amount of shootings annually among the United States. I will ask questions to capture the moment and make everyone think. The questions that come to my mind are listed below:

  1. Why didn't the police assist Mr. Crutcher once he stated his car was stalled in the middle of the road?
  2. Did Mr. Crutcher resist the police to cause this negative incident to begin and if so, how?
  3. Why didn't the police use a taser on Mr. Crutcher instead of shooting him?
  4. Why did the police state he looked dangerous and is possibly on something and needs to be taken down?
  5. Why did the police state "They need to taze that thing?" associating the word thing with Mr. Crutcher?
  6. Was it necessary to have 3 police officers pull out their gun on an unarmed male?
  7. Why didn't anyone try to save Mr.Crutcher's life once he was shot?

Video of Tulsa Police and Mr. Terence Crutcher

I live in the United States of America. I have freedoms and rights constituted by the Bill of Rights and the United States Constitution. I am informed that I am protected by the police in order to feel safe in our country and live a normal life as long as I abide by the laws created.

Yet I, the founder of Get Up Radio Media Broadcasting and member of the National Press Club, have to hear about this incident with Mr. Crutcher who also happens to be a black male. Everyone wants to try to look at only the facts and consider there had to be a reason for the reactions that occur in events like this. It is hard to discover any possible logical reason for this particular case when nothing logical shows reasoning to shoot a person and allow him to die. I see everyone in the world as humans as we are that and will be only that in the world no matter what else occurs. Though characteristics are placed on us as far as culture, race, gender, and sexual preference, we are all still humans in the end. As a male who is mixed with caucasian and black dna, I have encountered my times of disrespect and stereotyping and racial profiling. Even now I still receive negative perceptions and assumptions of what type of person I am based on the color of my skin. Many times I am not able to even explain myself or prove myself otherwise which confuses me. I remember many times I have spoken on the phone with individuals and companies. After scheduling a meeting with them and meeting, some would stare at me intensely and say "I thought you were white as you sounded white on the phone." I still try to understand what actions or words initiate that someone is white or black? I understand if someone speaks a different language and has a heavy accent then one could consider you to be a foreign individual. I still don't know what constitutes one to be black or white based on simply their voice and how they speak.

I want to believe and will continue to believe that one day I can honestly say without a doubt that we all live in the "United States of America" where everyone is united and equal and perceive all to be of equal rights and opportunity based on experience, intelligence, and character. Though times have changed where being gay, transgender, bisexual and even have an alternative lifestyle is being accepted today, why must it be difficult to have the color of someone's skin be erased to create unneeded negative profiling and stereotypes? Eight years ago, the United States had the first black President of the United States and in November of this year, we may have our first female President of the United States. Yet we still have situations like that of Mr. Crutcher where you have to ask the question: "WHY!" Why can't we all just get along in a world that was created to be united and equal? Why must I hear from various people constantly "It's just the way it is and can't be changed so don't try to change it." I recall the times I was told not to try to do things simply because of my color. I recall the times I was spit in the face, called nigger, accused to be threatening or denied a job based simply on the color of my skin. Though these events occurred, I didn't give up and continued to move forward and accomplish in the long run. I still overlook the negativity placed at me and others because of racism as I know we can change if we choose to. We only use up to 15% of my brain activity and can increase it and make a difference in the world and how we live.

I will not say "Black Lives Matter" as I believe "All Lives Matter" and until we all decide to see this, we will destroy ourselves, our word and the future of this country. We must understand that every equal and opposite action delivers an equal and opposite reaction. When you say the statement: " Well that doesn't affect me so why should I care?", you don't realize that actually everything will affect you one day if not your generation in the future. Was this the type of country our Fore-Fathers imagined when they created the Bill of Rights, Consititution and name our country "The United States of America?" How can we as people believe and stand for the United States of America when we ourselves are not united?

I hope that evidence is brought out to find justice in the current situation with Mr. Crutcher. I and my staff at Get Up Radio Media offer our condolences to the family of Mr. Crutcher as well as to the many police officers around the world who may have a negative impart placed on them for no reason by others that will stereotype and profile them because of the current event. Something has to give to make the necessary change to our current violent situation involving racism, sexism, stereotyping, and profiling. Proper training must be implemented, people have to be taught the affects that can occur from negativity of this nature. People must think outside of the box and realize that in order to create a better future, we must learn from our past. I ask that you take this time and think on who you are and how you can change our future. Remember that one day if this continues on, you may be that one person that is profiled and considered dangerous by another which ends up in a terrible outcome for you, them or others around.
