Which one is the best? British or American English?
This question can't cross students' mind over and over again when it comes to learn English. However, teachers should not create disputes between these language variations, instead, teachers should enlighten students the importance of the language itself "English language".
Once students learn the importance of the English language for themselves and in the world, they end up figuring out what really matters is THE COMMUNICATION, after all, English is a lingua franca.
If communication is what really matters not knowing which one is the best, then why should students learn both American and British?
I always point out to the variations and popularity of the language, in the world we're living in people tend to familiarise with American English and others with British one. Having said, students cannot focus that much on one single accent not only say "variation of language", they should be taught both, so that they start maintaing an active communication with both British and American native speakers.
In addition, we should give students the opportunity to speak naturally and not force them to look like an American or British people which in fact they are not. Thus, I am not saying that students cannot try to sound like one of those, what I am actually conveying is "They should be themselves and speak naturally".
In the end, both of us agree that when learning a language what really matters are some of these key aspects: Communication, Accuracy + Clear pronunciation, and fluency ...And the accent? Well, it's part of cultural roots.
