Tell us about your involvement with aviation over your career?

Throughout my career, my involvement with the aviation industry has evolved significantly. Initially, my connection to aviation was limited to being a frequent flyer, primarily for business purposes and occasional holidays. During that time, I gained a good understanding of the differences in service quality. However, in 2006, my career took an inspiring turn when I was asked by President George W. Bush to join his Administration. I began as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Environment, Safety, Occupational Health, and Energy. Later, I had the privilege of serving as the Assistant Secretary for Installations, Environment, and Logistics throughout the remainder of the Bush Administration and into the early part of the Obama Administration.

Working as part of the US Air Force team provided me with a profound appreciation for the complexity and importance of effective air power. It not only shaped my understanding of global security, but also highlighted the role aviation plays in bringing the world together. Presently, I am honoured to be an Honorary Group Captain in the Royal Air Force as a member of 601 (County of London) Squadron. This role allows me to collaborate with incredibly talented and dedicated individuals who share a common commitment to a cause greater than themselves.

What first attracted you to Global Airlines?

My initial introduction to Global Airlines occurred during a lunch meeting with Richard Stephenson. It was there that I discovered the captivating idea of rejuvenating the A380 and establishing an airline that prioritised delivering the ultimate customer experience in the skies. The concept resonated deeply with me due to its inherent logic and potential. However, it was my encounter with James that truly solidified my attraction to Global Airlines. Meeting James revealed his infectious energy and unwavering dedication to transforming his vision into reality. His passion for creating a remarkable airline experience was palpable, and it instilled in me a sense of confidence that this ambitious endeavour could indeed be accomplished.

What is your view on the A380?

The A380 is undeniably an exceptional aircraft. Its ability to deliver an unparalleled customer experience across all classes sets it apart from any other plane in the industry. However, it's important to recognise that the A380 is not designed to compete solely on price. Its inherent value lies in more than just offering the lowest fares. By implementing a sound business structure and efficient operations, the A380 has the potential to generate substantial returns for investors. Moreover, it has the capability to provide a level of customer satisfaction that harkens back to the Golden Age of Air Travel, where exceptional service and comfort were paramount. In summary, the A380 represents an extraordinary aircraft that, when approached strategically, can yield both financial success for investors and an elevated level of customer satisfaction reminiscent of aviation's most illustrious era.

How important is safety and governance to you?

Safety and governance hold utmost importance to me. The significance of safety cannot be overstated. It not only ensures the well-being of passengers and crew but also establishes a foundation for a thriving and reputable airline. By prioritising safety in all aspects of Global Airlines' operations, we will create a company that is not only successful but also fosters a culture that people are eager to be part of. Governance plays a crucial role in maintaining safety standards and accountability. It is the framework that guides our actions and behaviours. When a company has a charismatic and visionary leader like James, it becomes even more vital to channel that energy towards achieving our team's objectives. Having a vision is essential, but it is through effective governance that we can transform that vision into reality. Vision without execution is hallucination.
