Who messed up the job search?

Who messed up the job search?

What happened to the job search? When did it start to feel like conquering a new level in a game where the rules keep changing?

How did we go from reading a job advert in the newspaper while drinking our morning coffee, applying, getting invited to max two rounds of interviews, and getting the job to.. this?

Job Seekers are confused. For a reason.

They come to me (hello, I am the Job Search Coach Inuta Sert) saying “Please help with my resume, I can’t get interviews”.

I wish it was as simple as that. But it’s not the case in 2023.

And it won’t be the case in 2024.

So, let’s ditch the frustration and embrace the new challenges.

If you read this far, keep reading, I will share 5 tips, to help you see some light through the job search jungle.

5 Power Moves for Today’s Job Seekers.

  1. Level Up Your LinkedIn Game: Optimize it according to your goal, and use strategic keywords. No need to be an SEO guru, just make your profile a magnet for the right opportunities.
  2. Don’t Obsess Over Your Resume: Don't put all the cards on it. Make one, with a focus on your impact and achievements. Don’t stress about beating 200+ applicant tracking systems, just make sure it’s clear and clean. No need for crazy graphics, leave them to your art class.
  3. Stop Mass Applying: Unless you want to end up defeated by the automatic rejections. Be selective. Customize the Career Summary and Skills of your resume for each application you make. Know your value!
  4. The Networking vs Not Working: Read carefully, this is what ensures 70% of your success: Connect to your target company, peers, and potential future boss. Networking is not just a buzzword, today it’s your ticket to more interviews and potential job offers.
  5. Master the Interview Skills: Don’t read that book about 5000 job interview questions, you will go mad. Focus on the 15 core questions. Be ready, be genuine, and showcase your unique, specific skills and experiences.
