Born as Senor Abravanel, he was a descendant of Isaac Abravanel, a prominent 15th-century Jewish statesman and scholar who served as a treasurer to King Afonso V of Portugal. Isaac Abravanel himself was a direct descendant of King David, the legendary monarch of ancient Israel (Jewish Telegraphic Agency).
