Why Did You Start On This Path?
When figuring out the foundation of your personal brand, it's easy to forget why you even started on the path of doing what you do - especially if you have been at it for a while.
For some, it was just the path of least resistance - an opportunity came up and they jumped on it.
For some, it was because someone in their profession helped them when they needed it and they decide to pay it forward by being able to do the same for others.
For some, it's because something happened to pivot them to do something new - either by force or choice.
The latter seems to be the theme of these covid-times we are living in and what draws many to think about developing their personal brand.
Your personal brand is an opportunity to change the world with what you know and it starts with understanding your brand's journey - which is really your journey.
Whatever the reason to have started on your path, figure out what that inciting incident was.
Dig into it - emotionally, intellectually, physically.
How did affect you?
Why did it affect you?
Trace the steps from inception to present day - why is it still inspiring you today?
Look at how it has informed how you change the world because of what you have learned.
Look at how it fuelled your experience, passion, and expertise on this journey.
It's not all about the rainbows and unicorns.
Failure is as important to acknowledge as triumph.
The more you understand your story, the more you understand yourself, the more you are understandable to the public as you build your personal brand.
