Why Do Candidates get Rejected?

This note was from Einar Einarsson @ CBREX and it's important for candidates to know!!!

So why do our candidates get rejected? Some of our own research and some data from other sources. Read on and have some laughs over the weekend.

- 76% of all resumes are discarded for an unprofessional email address? (business2community.com)
- 61% of recruiters will dismiss a resume because it contains typos.
- 43% of hiring managers disqualify applicants because of their spelling mistakes.
- While the average length of an interview is 40 minutes, 33% of 2000 surveyed bosses indicated they knew within the first 90 seconds if they will hire that candidate. Some of the reasons for this included:

  1. 70% indicated applicants were too fashionable or trendy
  2. 67% indicated failure to make eye contact.
  3. 47% of applicants who had little or no knowledge of the company
  4. 33% for bad posture.

This should give every candidate regardless of age and sophistication pause for thought. I can't tell you how many resumes I "pass" on because of poor spelling or grammar. As they say, "You are perfect twice in your life. When you are born and when you write your resume". Make sure you write "perfectly"!!!!!

Thanks for sharing this, Gary! All these points are quite easily improved upon. Very helpful. Although I'm wondering what "Too fancy" really means. Depends probably on the age of the hiring managers.
