Why Do You Have to Create Controversy to be Relevant?

Why Do You Have to Create Controversy to be Relevant?

It seems like these days you can't be popular unless you're controversial.

Everyone's got to have an opinion, and they've got to voice it loudly and often. But is that really the only way to be relevant?

I say no!

With all my professional efforts, I stay true to my values and my audience's values - providing easy-to-listen-to solutions that make their lives and jobs easier.

And you know what? People appreciate that!

In today's The Monthly Hustle, I'll give you some tips on how to stay relevant without getting overwhelmed with all the content out there.

1. Know your audience.

It's impossible to be everything to everyone, so focus on the people who are most likely to appreciate your content.

If you're not sure who your target audience is, take some time to do some market research. This will help you focus your efforts and ensure that you're creating content that appeals to the people who are most likely to convert into customers or clients.

2. Keep it focused.

There's a lot of noise out there, so it's important to make sure that your content cuts through the clutter. Be clear, concise, and direct in your writing, and don't try to cover too many topics in one piece of content. By laser-focusing your efforts, you'll be more likely to capture your audience's attention and hold it long enough to deliver your message.

Here’s a handy rule of thumb when it comes to creating content that I like to follow:

3. Be authentic.

In today's environment, people are looking for brands and businesses they can trust. So be authentic in everything you do - from the way you interact with customers and clients online to the way you present yourself on social media. When people see that you're genuine, they're more likely to stick around and continue doing business with you.

4. Have fun!

No one wants to read (or watch or listen to) a boring lecture, so infuse some personality into your content. Write (or speak) in a way that reflects your brand's unique voice, and don't be afraid to show some personality! After all, people do business with people - not faceless corporations - so let your human side shine through.

The Importance of Non-Controversial Content

There's no need to create controversy to be relevant - just focus on producing quality content that appeals to your target audience.

By following the tips outlined above, you can easily create content that will help you stay relevant without getting overwhelmed by all the noise out there.

No one has to, however I can see some opinions or information being disseminated being controversial. This might not be for relevance but to spark a discussion or incite the masses. Really it boils down to this attention economy we now live in.

Who decides if an opinion is a controversy? The writer or the reader?
