Why and How You Should Get a Job in a Food or Ag Tech Startup

One of the biggest decisions you make in life is where you work. That’s why it’s important to find work that is fulfilling and enjoyable. A job in Food or Ag Tech is just that. So, let’s discuss why you should get yourself a job at a Food or Ag Tech startup and how you bag one.

6 Reasons to Work at a Startup

1.    You are a gamechanger

Startups are startups for a reason. They want to change the industry. They’ve identified a problem and produced a solution that addresses that problem. Just like any company, a startup needs a variety of talent. Do you want to become a part of the increasing number of gamechangers working in startups?

2. Contribute to the next generation of leading companies

Successful companies need to start somewhere. By joining a startup, you could become a pioneer of one of the next business success stories. Corporates are also often looking for innovative ideas to revolutionize their own offerings. Collaboration between startups and corporations is beneficial for both sides as it increases the likelihood of reaching profitability for startups and corporations gain access to fresh ideas which will help them reach their own goals. Even though startups are smaller companies than corporations, you can still help contribute to the biggest impact by working at a startup.

3. Shape a Sustainable Food System

In recent years, the focus within our food value chain has been on sustainability. Specifically, on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. As food, which includes any step from farm to fork, is one of the areas where we can make the biggest impact, starting a job at a Food or Ag Tech startup really is one of the best ways to contribute to a sustainable planet. In this way, working at a startup is more like a mission than a job.

4.  Accelerate Your Professional Growth

In a startup, a lot is happening and it’s not rare that you will take on responsibilities outside of your job role. If you’ve not worked in a startup environment before it can be overwhelming at the start but ultimately rewarding. Working in a startup is a steep learning curve. And it will accelerate your professional growth compared to taking an entry level job at a large company. A startup will really spruce up your resume.

5. Have Responsibility

Working in a small company means you must be more responsible. In a way this gives you the power to make decisions, but it also means your actions have a significant impact on the company’s direction. If you slack, the whole company could be affected by it. And if you do well with this responsibility, you will be rewarded for it, through personal and professional growth.

6. Inspire Others and Share Ideas

One of the greatest things about working for a startup is the people you meet. You will meet inspiring people from all over the world who are doing magnificent work just like you. By networking, you can get ideas of what direction you would like to go in in your career and responsibilities.
