Why I am Obsessed With Apple? (not the fruit)

The most interesting stories and anecdotes in life happen when you think via the child in you.

Let me share two such anecdotes.

  • I declined a lucrative job offer in an MNC because they weren’t providing a Mac. On asking if I could bring my own, they denied it, and I refused their offer.
  • I left a job in 2022 because they gave me an old MacBook Air (2015) model, and I wanted a MacBook Pro. They denied changing to the Pro model, and I resigned that night.

Apple was and is an integral part of my life. It brings bravado.

I discovered a writer in me because I wanted to write on iPad’s Magic Keyboard — Writer’s paradise.

Let me explain the reason for this level of obsession.

Ecosystem

Apple makes seven types of devices.

  • iPhone
  • iPad
  • Mac
  • Watch
  • AirPods
  • TV
  • HomePods

I am lucky to have at least one in each type, a total of 14 Apple devices.

The most prominent reason for me using Apple and owning a plethora of devices is the ecosystem it has.

None of the competitors stand near them.

Some features that make me feel bravado are:

  • I can make or take calls from any device which is not an iPhone.
  • Copy anything from one device and paste it onto another. Magical.
  • AirPods connect to all devices. You just need to have AirPods in your ears and start using the device you want to.
  • I don’t bother where my iPhone is even if I am going out. I have an Apple Watch Ultra 2. I just need it for my CarPlay.

Once you use all this and get habitual, there is no looking back.

People call it a walled garden, but I am quite happy in this walled garden.

Consistency

Apple stands out from the competition due to:

  • Lifespan of the battery
  • Smooth performance even after years
  • Latest software & firmware updates for quite old devices

My favorite Mac till today is the M1 MacBook Pro 13-inch, even after having the 14 and 16-inch M1 Pro & M2 Pro.

It was launched back in 2020, and it is still relevant. There are no performance or battery issues, and I still get the latest updates.

I also remember my mother using a MacBook Air 2015 model from 2015 to 2022.

I have never faced any issues with any of my Apple devices. They all work flawlessly, which is different from the market.

Every competitor is cheaper than Apple, but I feel the other way.

Let me explain.

I recently got Samsung’s Galaxy Book 3 Pro 360. I used it for two months and stopped using it.

Reasons:

  1. It was glitchy.
  2. Battery drained way too fast.
  3. Always needs a restart.
  4. Slow in loading every app, and browser.

Overall, if I had to do any work, it took longer to start than compared to a Mac, which impacts productivity to a great extent.

The same goes with Android phones vs iPhones. The consistency makes Apple devices stand out.

So, at the outset, we might feel Apple is expensive, but it’s vice versa.

Conclusion

“Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.” — Steve Jobs

This is the philosophy behind all of Apple’s designs in hardware and software.

All Apple products look beautiful because they are designed to work flawlessly and consistently.
