But April is the start of Spring and here in Michigan…here in Detroit we celebrate all that is good in the world of Sports and Entertainment. The month of April starts with the NCAA Final Four Basketball weekend...maybe the best sporting event of all time. Our Detroit Tigers host their Home Opener every year in early April. This year was even more special as my longtime mentor, Michael Ilitch, was honored and remembered. Seeing Mrs. Ilitch on the field pre-game is a moment I will never forget. Having worked for the Ilitch family for many years prior to starting Dietz Sports & Entertainment so many great Detroit sports memories rushed through my mind: 4 Stanley Cups, 4 Detroit Drive Championships, 2 World Series Appearances, Kronk Boxing Fights at Cobo, great concerts at the FOX Theater, Rockers Soccer, Turbos Lacrosse, etc. What Mr. and Mrs. Ilitch have done for my hometown is second to none.

This April saw the final home games for the Detroit Pistons at the Palace of Auburn Hills and the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena. Next April both teams will be back in the playoffs and both will be playing in the best arena in America, Little Caesars Arena.

April also kicks off the golf season with the Masters, "A Tradition Unlike Any Other” and there is no better place to play golf than the great State of Michigan.

FOX Sports Detroit has promoted April in the D for years. This past Sunday they added a fun, fan engaged 5K run on a beautiful sunny day that was enjoyed by thousands.

Just last night, the first round of the NFL draft took place and our Detroit Lions acquired Jarrad Davis. With new additions to the Lions, the team will continue to improve.

April is here, Spring has arrived. It’s all good.

So true! I have great memories of you being my boss at my first job out of college. The excitement of April, working for the Tigers, seeing Mr Ilitch smile and beam with pride, and the camaraderie of all of us in the marketing and sale department is something I will always treasure.
