🤔 Why I went into comedy!? 😂

🤔 Why I went into comedy!? 😂

A couple of weeks ago I reached out to James, a comedian in Austin,

whom I saw perform and met a bar in town.

We met on a Sunday at noon at a local coffee shop

and after a two hour session on the comedy basics,

I felt ready to day view a couple of days later.

In the session with James, I learned about how he got started,

some of his techniques for writing and telling jokes

and about open mics.

Open mics, uh?

Well, you can think of it like the Comedian's gym, really!

So, I asked James when and where was the next open mic

turns out there was one two days later.

Fast forward to two days,

James and I were signing up for our place on stage.

Here are my top three takeaways from this experience:

  1. Start writing - followed by James advice, I came home the day after meeting for our comedy chat, which felt more like a workshop and just did that... write and write and write, before I knew and couple of hours later, I had written many many jokes, stories or beginnings of laughs.
  2. Get on stage - even though I only had a couple days to digest my conversation with James, prepare and get ready for an open mic, the fact that there was a date made it real.
  3. Rinse and repeat - James feedback after my performance was around my stage energy and to continue going to the open mics to practice.

This past months have been everything but dull

and starting comedy has been an experience on its own.

I've been using Notion

to keep all my projects in one place

for comedy I keep track of my jokes, bits and sets.
