Why I'm Leaving Most Social Media Platforms

Why I'm Leaving Most Social Media Platforms

"Web2 is the caterpillar. Web3 is the butterfly. It's time to fly."

-Mitch Jackson

__________

Web2 has been a fun ride. It's been a great vehicle to help me learn from and add value to the community. It's allowed me to make new friends, experience new opportunities, and test new technologies.

Despite all the value web2 has brought to my business and life, the platforms have changed, and frankly, so have I.

Long story short, it's time for a major pivot to just one or two web2 platforms and a few select web3 and metaverse platforms.

For many reasons (all good), in addition to staying active here on LinkedIn, I'm moving my digital web2 conversations and interactions over to my public Discord. I created it for friends and my community to hang out, have meaningful interactions, and share.

Over the next two months and through the end of December, I'll spend less time on the other traditional social media platforms. By the end of the year, I'll be discontinuing my use of most platforms and limiting my involvement to an interview now and then. At the same time, I'll be focusing my time and attention on the relationships and conversations here on LinkedIn and in my Discord.

Since I'm the guy who wrote an Amazon best-selling book on social media, "The Ultimate Guide to Social Media for Business Owners, Entrepreneurs, and Professionals," I struggled a bit before finally making this decision. But things have changed over the years and now that I've made the decision, I feel like the world's weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I'm excited to move forward, and so are friends of mine who have already joined me in the new community.

Truth be told, no single issue or event has led me to this result. I'm very busy as a trial lawyer and, frankly, tired of all the noise and nonsense we see daily on social media. Besides health, family, friends, and clients, protecting my time is one of the most important things I need to do each day. To focus on all the above, I'm consolidating and simplifying my digital conversations and relationships in the digital spaces.

Eventually, and by January 1, 2023, my Discord along with LinkedIn will be the primary places where I'll interact and share with my community. My online attention will revolve around web3 and the metaverse.

I have to tell you, I can't wait for this to happen.

I've built large communities on most of the traditional social media platforms. The friends, connections, and opportunities that have come from these relationships mean the world to me. I don't take them for granted.

With the above in mind and always focusing on the present and future, much thought and consideration have gone into this decision. The transition will be gradual. I want to give everyone who is interested the chance to stay connected. By the end of the year, the move will be final.

When I'm skiing this winter and want to check in with my community, the only web2 apps I'll be using while riding the lift to the top of Mammoth will be Discord and LinkedIn. Next summer, when I'm out for a run or paddle around the island, my Discord and LinkedIn feeds will be the only places I'll be engaging, sharing pics and videos. While sitting down at the courthouse waiting for my case to be called, I'll be responding to legal, biz, web3, and metaverse questions only inside these apps and communities.

For the most part, LinkedIn is free from all the noise and drama so I'm sure you can appreciate why I'm going to stick around on this business oriented web2 platform. But a few of you have asked, why Discord?

First, it's easy to use on phones, tablets, laptops, and desktops. I can even access the Discord platform from inside the metaverse.

Second, together with the input of my community, it allows us to be in control, not a corporate-generated algorithm driven by marketing, profits, or the decisions of misguided eccentric executives and billionaires.

So that's the latest from yours truly.

I hope you will stay connected with me on Linkedin and Discord. These are the web2 platforms where I'll be continuing to share my posts, thoughts, and ideas. This is where I'm inviting you to stay engaged with me if you're inclined to do so.

Thanks, and please ping me with questions.

And one more thing. Never stop making each day your masterpiece!

Mitch

I guess I'll see you on Discord then, Mitch :) I have to admit, Web3 is still very new to me but hopefully, I'll catch up soon! LOL
