Why Leadership Playbook? Why this newsletter?
Launching into a new trajectory should be an inspiring process. Of course, if you’ve ever tried something new, you might know it’s sometimes less than inspiring. Let’s face it. Taking the next big step toward a different--new--path is something I’ve struggled with. But I’ve discovered that it’s also something most people struggle with. Launches are hard because it’s inherently difficult to deviate from the status quo.
When I first wrote The Launch Book, I was struggling with all the obstacles that came with launches. I envisioned perfection, feared failure, and procrastinated in the process. So, I set out to find answers by doing what I do best--foster, connect, and engage with leaders, and then demystify, curate, translate, and share actionable insights to empower readers to create their own leadership playbooks.
In the writing process, leaders, mentors, and sages shared their stories and wisdom for building the mindset and habits to launch into one’s next big thing. I curated those insights into an inspirational guide for those who, like me, were unsure how to take that next step, whether that next was in furthering an idea, career, or a new phase in one's personal life.
Through the patterns uncovered, I was convinced--and still am!--that self-awareness, engaging others, imagination, and emotional generosity could turn our launches from something nerve-wracking into something empowering. You can flourish through change.
But in the four years since I wrote The Launch Book, the world has changed dramatically. Are these same principles still relevant in today’s world? I wondered. How we work has changed. What inspires us is different. Even what we feel capable of dreaming might seem limited right now.
As always, I am committed to helping others launch in pursuit of their dreams--and becoming their best selves. And while my four-point framework in The Launch Book (“Being You,” “Build Your Tribe,” “Pivots and Reframes,” and “Next Play”) still holds, these challenges require updated vocabulary, new insights, and co-creating with the reader: YOU.
