Why Quadrans is the valid Ethereum alternative you are looking for

TL;DR

If you are planning to launch a new blockchain project or you are here looking to improve your existing solution with an innovative blockchain, Quadrans is a valid and fully compatible alternative to Ethereum, and could be exactly what you are looking for (especially if you are fed up with Ethereum's steep transaction fees and looking for a more cost-effective solution).

Huston…

Over the recent period many De-Fi projects have reached the peak of success resulting in an impressive rise of Ether price that went from ≃400 USD in August 2020 to the recent ATH beyond 2000 USD. This implies that at the present moment making transactions on Ethereum blockchain is extremely costly. Besides, the constant and unpredictable fluctuation of Gas Price is of no help in keeping it calm.

In fact, over the same period Gas Prices went from an average of ≃70GWey to the recent 120/160/380 Gwey (still far from the “legendary peak” of 700 GWey reached on June 11th 2020.)

If on one hand the effect of this rise in Eth Price and cost of transactions made some traders very happy, on the other, the actual users of the Ethereum blockchain are really not.

In such a scenario, business plans and cost forecasts become useless and need to be constantly readjusted according to price fluctuations. Due to the unforeseeable costs associated with each operation, transactions may be very slow and take hours or even days to be processed.

High costs, price uncertainty, Gas Price fluctuations - these factors are putting projects under high pressure as they have a dramatic impact on performance and executability. For some they could be a show-stopper.

The whole DApp & Blockchain Community is looking forward to the long announced Ethereum2 Platform rollout, as sharding and other new features could help fix these issues. Another life-saver could be the EIL 1559 but the solution does not seem to be around the corner...

As a result of the above, many users have started to migrate out of Ethereum and just as many are currently searching online for “alternative solutions to Ethereum”. The graph below - extracted from Google Trends - shows how these online searches are peaking these days.

As many are looking for other Smart Contract Platforms such as EOS or NEO, others are looking into Polkadot - yet those are not exactly fully compatible and valid alternatives.

Let me tell you why. For instance, they do not completely solve operational cost-related concerns, and even worse often require rewriting the DApp in another language and/or using a different design approach - a time-consuming inconvenience that also requires considerable skills.

From my experience, I can tell you that I have seen it all. Above all, I have seen users try to solve a problem and end up shooting themselves right in the foot. Some have claimed to have lost good deals because transaction costs on DEX reached around USD 150 per transaction… Some (I swear I’ve actually seen this with my eyes, however absurd it might sound) have been using RInkeby or Ropsten Testnet in production, or even regressing to private blockchains (aka “expensive trust-based distributed databases”) running on a few nodes in the Cloud.

This should suffice to show how desperate the situation is. But a better and valid alternative already exists: Quadrans.

Join Quadrans

Quadrans might be the valid alternative that many distressed Ethereum users are looking for. The transfer of DApps and Tokens from Ethereum to Quadrans would take place effortlessly, without compromising decentralisation and security and, most importantly, lashing down transaction costs.

You may think of Quadrans as a reboot of the Ethereum Network, performed with a keen eye on the needs of its users. Quadrans is designed as a Smart Contract Platform and allows companies, start-ups, universities & public administrations to operate on a fully functional, open, public and transparent blockchain that works exactly like Ethereum, but in an environment of highly reduced costs.

Quadrans shares almost the same basic code with Ethereum. This means that you can work using your usual favourite development tools: Solidity, Truffle, Metamask, Web3js, you name it. If it works on Ethereum, it works on Quadrans.

Here some of the ups:

  • Low energy consumption: Quadrans was initially designed using the PoA consensus algorithm, but is now shifting to a hybrid of PoW and PoS (for more details on this please refer to Quadrans White paper and Yellow Paper)
  • Reasonable and affordable costs: Quadrans gas is paid in QDC (Quadrans Coins). Users can get QDC by staking QDT (Quadrans Tokens, an Ethereum ERC20). This means that if you lock in some QDT, you could use the blockchain for free. The best part? The Quadrans Airdrop is active right now, all you have to do is fill out a form and claim your 1,000 free QDTs.
  • You can (and should) have your own node(s): I’ve got a Testnet Node running on my laptop, one on an Orange Pi, a couple on AWS. Installing and syncing a node is quick and easy and the binaries are available for many architectures (x86, x64, arm…)
  • No cryptocurrency price fluctuation: Since QDC is not a trading asset there is no “price change” issue here. You pay virtually nothing now, you’ll pay virtually nothing next month, and so on.

And some of the down (are they really, though?):

  • You cannot trade QDC. That might be bad news for the trading enthusiasts but Quadrans Coin is not in any exchange today, it’s a working asset. The value is in the use you can make of it. This means that you are not affected by price fluctuations, and that you can plan out your business in the long run.
  • You’ll probably end up installing your own node. Since there is not (and probably there will never be) an Infura-like platform for Quadrans, you’ll probably need to install one or more nodes to deploy Smart Contracts and interact with them. But let’s be honest: costs of running a node are negligible and if you are planning to setup some serious service on a blockchain you want your node in any case.

So where is the catch? Apparently none, but some might argue that the project is still young and at the beginning of its life cycle, while at the same time others will say this is the reason why you should jump on right now.

Quadrans blockchain is a project of the Quadrans Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Mendrisio, Switzerland. With the help of the community and its members, the Foundation works everyday towards the dissemination and adoption of blockchain technology through seminars, courses, presentations. Great effort was made to enable blockchain to play a key role in improving citizens' everyday life, supporting public administration, charitable activities, sustainability, consumer protection, and many other projects for the welfare of the entire community.

Quadrans is a community-based project, if you want to keep in touch or know more directly from the Quadrans members and users, you can find them on Twitter, Linkedin and Facebook

Quadrans has also activated a support group chat on Telegram. This group was created with the intent to provide support to the users of Quadrans blockchain, guide them through troubleshooting, and provide additional information beyond the documentation.

Want to know more ?

If you are still not persuaded, let's go a little deeper into the matter and solve the last loose ends.

  • Quadrans Network already counts 320+ visible nodes around the world. As you may know, listing your own node is not compulsory and although many people do it, just as many may not do so. Quadrans nodes could therefore be many more.

  • FYI all transactions are listed on the Quadrans Explorer.
  • Quadrans technical members have taken special care in creating a Wiki containing all the documentation you need to get started with Quadrans. Anyone who joins the community and registers can submit a contribution and edit / add information and value to the wiki via GitHub.
  • Quadrans White Paper and Yellow Paper are available for download.
  • Quadrans Airdrop is now available and enables you to become self-sufficient on Quadrans, starting by claiming your 1,000 QDTs for free.
  • Quadrans intends to contribute to the study of Covid-19 by encouraging Airdrop participants to contribute to the research and be rewarded with additional Quadrans Tokens for their effort. Interested users can join the Quadrans team created for the Folding@home project by downloading the FAHclient application and offer part of their computer resources to help defeat the Coronavirus.

How about a test drive?

You have to try it to believe it, don't you? Bravo, that's the spirit! Quadrans comes with its fully functional Testnet. In order to give it a try, install your Quadrans node in Testnet Mode (refer to this part of the Wiki for a detailed step-by-step guide). Find a network monitoring tool, enter Quadrans dedicated Explorer, grab some QDC from the Faucet and you are now good to go. Have fun doing all the tests you want!

Conclusion

Distressed Ethereum users, congratulations! You have just found the most valid, cost-effective, open and accessible Ethereum alternative to save your project. For you, no more working with uncertainty and at the mercy of Eth Price variability. Set up your nodes in minutes, get your Smart Contracts and transfer them over to Quadrans.

I have seen Quadrans transform from a project into reality. Currently the Quadrans blockchain is the provider of numerous concrete use cases and the object of cultural dissemination. I think this is the best business card that has been created over time. 💪

who considers the real cost of blockchain transaction? Quadrans Foundation is an interesenting option. Alessandro Benvegnù Piera Di Stefano
