Why should students learn to tell stories?

Why should students learn to tell stories?

"Why should students learn to tell stories?"

This is what an audience member asked me at a recent Leadership round-table.

Here's what I had to say:

Stories help us create great first impressions, lasting engagements and deeper connections.

As founders:

They can use storytelling to their advantage in business.

As changemakers:

They can find what to say and how to say it, so their messages reach, teaches, and touches the people.

As corporate professionals:

They can build impact, connection, and trust in their stakeholders.

As educators:

Needless to say, a narrative style of teaching goes a long, long way in making connections between theory and real-world, and makes for the sure-shot way to shape minds, build interest and ignite purpose.

All this, and then some joy.

Of releasing our untold stories out to the world to fetch their own sunshine.

Storytelling for Business - IIT Delhi

In whatever career or life choices the students make along the way - They would need to reach out, communicate their stories, and win the trust of their people: partners, investors, stakeholders, collaborators, and most importantly, our buyers.

And then, they'd realise deeply at each stage, how:

  • People love to do business with people they like.
  • Managers hire people who impress them.
  • We recommend people we feel connected with.

'Stories are a communal currency of humanity.', said Tahir Shah.

This simple truth converts into an urgent need for today's students who will become tomorrow's force of art, education and economy.

And indeed, we agree!

If you are a student or a parent of one, this is where you can get started!
