Why Telecoms Matters, generative AI experiences, and a throwback to Mobile World Congress

It’s been a busy month! From Mobile World Congress to generative AI, we’ve discussed a range of technologies that have potential to change lives and protect our environment. Take a look at our latest stories in this edition of 5 Minute Digest. 


1. Looking back at Mobile World Congress 📶

Last month, we attended the world-renowned Mobile World Congress in Barcelona to showcase the latest in our cutting-edge connected technology.  

From Internet of Things (IoT) to Silicon Photonic tech, we had many innovations to uncover including our HyperRealityHub prototype to enhance extended reality (XR) and our ‘infinite scroll’ solution with Broadcom .  

Our MWC host, Lucy Hedges , met with Vodafone’s industry leaders and experts to talk all things tech, hearing their unique perspectives on the future of connectivity.

2. Why Telecoms Matters 📱⏫

Europe is on the cusp of major innovation and productivity. So, how do we get it to the next level? 

Our Chief of External and Corporate Affairs, Joakim Reiter , explains in his latest video how 5G Standalone (5GSA) could herald an industrial internet age and restore Europe to growth. However, he warns that Europe needs to be quick to adopt this new approach.

3. Bringing generative AI to hotels 🤖🏨🌴  

Artificial Intelligence has many real-world applications. But have you ever thought of AI in hotels? 

Together with Eviden , we are working to transform hotel experiences for customers, using generative AI. 

Vodafone Business recently unveiled a virtual assistant which could improve guest experiences by breaking the language barrier and communicating useful information about the hotel and the local area to guests.

4. …and to customer service chat bots 💬

That’s not all. Vodafone is also working to bring generative AI to its customer service offering. 

VOXI by Vodafone UK recently launched its new chatbot, powered by ChatGPT ’s generative AI framework, in partnership with Accenture

So, how might this improve customer service? Using AI, the chatbot will be able to speak with users in a more ‘human’ way – so it feels like you are talking with a real person. The chatbot will also be able to handle more complicated requests for customers, leading to more seamless resolution of queries.

5. Safeguarding biodiversity for a better future 🦁 

Over 1 million species are now under threat of extinction.  

We believe that connected technology has the power to help protect wildlife for years to come. Using Internet of Things (IoT) tech and AI, we have been able to create solutions to safeguard species and ecosystems in a changing world. 

From preventing animal-human conflict to preserving seagrass ecosystems, our new web story ‘Fighting For Survival’ unveils the importance of technology in conservation.
