Why is TOPCon the future of solar technology?
The intrinsic driving force of the photovoltaic industry is the cost reduction and efficiency enhancement of solar modules. One of the key initiatives driving industry development is the technological transformation of photovoltaic cell modules to improve their conversion efficiency. Its high conversion efficiency, mature equipment and processes, and cost-effectiveness in mass production have attracted many enterprises to transform their business layouts with TOPCon technology.
TOPCon cells have emerged as the dominant choice, surpassing other technological pathways. TOPCon has played a crucial role in reducing costs and increasing efficiency in photovoltaics. Its advantages lie in its high photovoltaic conversion efficiency, mature equipment and processes, and efficiency in mass production. In TOPCon technology, ultra-thin layers of silicon oxide and silicon nitride serve as tunneling layers, reducing surface recombination losses, enhancing open-circuit voltage, and achieving conversion efficiencies exceeding 25%.
TOPCon cells offer a cost advantage over alternative technologies like HJT and BC. In comparison to rebuilding manufacturing lines for HJT technology, TOPCon cells are compatible with approximately 70% of the equipment on the production line. Moreover, TOPCon manufacturing lines yield up to 98%, significantly higher than the approximately 95% yield rate of BC cell manufacturing lines, further demonstrating the advantages of TOPCon technology.
As part of its continuous improvement in process efficiency, TOPCon cells utilize advanced techniques including etching, backdoping, coating, and etching. With manufacturers rapidly upgrading LECO production lines, TOPCon cells have been improving their conversion efficiency as a result of the widespread adoption of LECO technology. Through continuous scientific and technological innovation, DAS Solar has broken world records 3 times in 8 months in 2023. Currently, DAS Solar's average mass production efficiency has reached 26.55%.

According to SMM data, TOPCon, HJT, ABC, and other N-type comprised 48.68% of the total number of N-type in December of 2023. Over the past year, the market share of N-type cells has steadily increased. TOPCon cells accounted for 24.62 %, HJT less than 2%, and N-type BC cells slightly over 1%. It is expected that, through March, the proportion of N-type, led largely by TOPCon, will exceed 75% for 2024 as a whole, according to SMM analysis.
Recently, DAS Solar's Chairman and President, Liu Yong, was invited to attend the BOAO forum and participate in the subforum on Leading High-Quality Development through Innovation, Sustainability, Digital Intelligence, and Integration. As a N-type leader, DAS Solar is dedicated to continuous exploration and rigorous research in N-type technology, consistently surpassing industry standards in cell and module efficiency. Since its inception, DAS Solar took the lead in establishing China's first N-type TOPCon product research and manufacturing line, which filled an industry gap. DAS Solar has broken world records 3 times in 8 months in 2023. Currently, DAS Solar's average mass production efficiency has reached 26.55%. At the same time, a technology roadmap developed by DAS Solar includes five pathways, TBC, SCPC, SFOS and TSiX, which will result in solar cell efficiency of up to 40%.
DAS Solar's N-type rectangular modules are powered by TOPCon 4.0 technology, which not only significantly enhances product power, but also broadens the range of products. They have zero light-induced degradation (LID), higher bifiality, a lower temperature coefficient, and superior performance under low light conditions, adding value to customers. The high-efficiency N-type rectangular module products have successfully obtained foundational certifications from multiple third-party organizations such as TUV, CGC, CQC, and PCCC. Furthermore, the products have been rigorously tested for CE certification, triple IEC certification, triple PID certification, and 8 levels of salt mist resistance, dust resistance, and ammonia resistance. In accordance with UL 61215 and 61730 certifications, DAS Solar rectangular modules have been rigorously tested to determine their reliability. In response to differing market demands, DAS Solar offers comprehensive photovoltaic system solutions across full scenarios by leveraging the leading advantages of N-type products, creating "PV+" application scenarios for ecological, urban, and offshore photovoltaics.
Since its establishment, DAS Solar has actively practiced ESG development, integrating sustainable development with our social responsibilities. In addition to efficient N-type module research and development, comprehensive supply chain material control, full-cycle manufacturing, and logistics and warehousing, DAS Solar has developed rigorous and comprehensive green and low-carbon management models across multiple areas of the company.
