Why we choose design?

Why we choose design?

We can all agree that designers are not in it for the money or the glory. We do not go into the design world for the same reasons a broker goes to Wall Street, or an actor/actress needs to reach fame in Hollywood. Designers do what they do because they love the creative process of solving solutions and finding beauty in the ugliness we see around us.

We thrive on creating logos, packaging, typography, ad campaigns, industrial products, and clothing and much more, solely to feed the creative hunger we have in ourselves. Designers are the less selfish people in the world; we stay up all night thinking and visualizing designs, to help you communicate your brand in the best way possible. With every design we put out there we leave a small piece of our sole attached to each design.

Designers also believe that what really drives them is found in a much deeper and higher calling. A need to contribute to human evolution, to turn our vision into reality and create work that has an impact. Designers are also freedom seekers, we cannot be confined to a desk or office. Our environment is what keeps us on our toes and let’s our creative minds wonder in order to find that design solution you are seeking.

Every designer has their own creative process, we are not given guidelines in how to create the best designs, but we somehow find ways to accomplish what others cannot. In school they may give us the creative tools to become better designers and in an agency we can use the guidance of more experienced leaders to guide us, but designers are amazing at carving their own vision. We have a unique way in bringing our visions to life.

Designers also like taking risks, their sense of adventure is what makes them different than other professions. No, I do not mean skydiving, even though a lot of designers are also great thrill seekers. We like to push our creative minds to the limits of our capabilities, we will not let a solution sit till it has been fully explored in every possible way. That is why we are always doodling, playing with things, and classifying ideas into our mental mood boards. We are also our own worst critic, to the point that we can obsess over a design for weeks and months and sometimes never even finish a work that we do not deem as perfection in our own eyes. We have a hard time of letting go as well. Giving up our designs is never easy, we defend them until the end, yet once they are gone, we tend to think of them as long lost friends who we will visit one day with fond memories.

Designer are also great storytellers. We use design to find ways to tell how your brand came to life, what it should look like and how to make your brand better. We definitely aim to please, but with a great sense of passion for what we do. We immerse ourselves in our work, even when we are working on someone else’s idea or project. Our passion can be contagious and even overwhelming to others, but that has never stopped designers from doing their best work to you.

Ask any designer why he or she designs and you will get a variety of answers, ranging from “hey it’s a pretty good living”, to “it’s my only creative outlet”. But one major common thread can be found in all designers, and that’s passion.
