Why we learn and ‘develop’?

With the mounting business establishments these days, expansion in academic qualification of employees coupled with on the job experience is declaring end of the human resources thinking moreover companies are labeling their workforce as “Human Capital”; hence departments in charge are renamed to Human Capital Management/Development inter alia.

Yet, the departments are old wine with new asthenic cover I can say with poise!  The disgruntled part of those departments is that they have learning and development section in charge of trainings & development works, without reward! “Capitals” with advanced degrees, manifold qualified trainings, first-class performance appraisals, eminent on the job performance along with plain learning curve will STUCK there on lower position for years whilst other “Capital” will be onboard based on UNKNOWN parameters for every other position. Streamlined with this; you will also have bunch of vacancy advertisements pushing first page of your email out of space, interestingly most of them are positions that you might fit; pausing what you were doing around you will rush to write a cover letter, update existing resume and attach other credentials asap and send your application by email or whatever, confirm the successful delivery even, period.  You may ask me what follows, but this is just an end for candidates without recommendation /relatives/ in the recruiting organization. No professionalism, No integrity, No Ethics and Meritocracy. It is not a big surprise to see a person with any lower qualification for that vacant position while there are multiple applicants with advanced qualifications related to the job, years of ample experience and proven record of impact in that specific area.  These reminds me of an article I read some years ago on one IMF publication which says “When political /leadership interest and the capitalist class combine, “crony capitalism” may emerge, and nepotism will be more rewarding than efficiency, I think that’s happening here by now.

So, today one of my friends asked me why we learn and develop. I clearly told him why one worships the status quo and stay quitted instead of exploring new opportunities ought to have? Through learning and development we should battle nepotism and kakistocracy installed on organizations around, we should face forward and ask transparency, set out our voice as our record testifies, let’s GO find and stumble on our color folks, this is not our destiny, we are not a tailor made machine for specific company, you are born free to think and explore; we have a lot to learn and develop even after!
