Why Women Should Always Negotiate Their Salary. And Why You Haven't Yet.
According to a recent survey conducted by Glassdoor Economic Research, 32% of women did not try to negotiate pay with their employer mainly due to the fear of being denied or losing their job.
Other reports put that number closer to 60 percent. Even when women are successful in negotiating a starting salary, they still often earn less than their male counterparts, despite doing the same work.
We all know the wage gap is larger than Donald Trump's ego.
Let's say you're around 45 years old and you've been working in corporate for 20+ years making, at best, 70 cents on the dollar compared to men.
I'll do the math for you and it's going to hurt.
Just because of your gender, you've lost out on $500k-$1MM so far in your career.
And you're telling me that you're not going to walk into that corner office and demand the 15k promotion you were qualified for 3 years ago?
You're not alone.
As Gloria Steinem once said, "The truth will set you free but first it will piss you off.”
Let’s change that.
Failure to negotiate can lead to lower pay for the rest of your career, as raises and promotions are often based on starting salaries.
By advocating for yourself and your worth, you will improve your financial stability and contribute to overall gender equality in the workplace.
