Why Your Job Search Is Failing You
[SPOILER ALERT] Believe it or not, one reason your job search is failing you is because of your resume.
Let me back up a bit and tell you a short story.
Anita came to me and she told me that after 21 years of progressive, accomplished managerial experience, she wasn’t receiving any bites on her resume. Zero!
She said she could not get an interview... never mind an offer.
So when I looked at her resume, I saw three main interview killers on her resume instantly.
--> She had a target job title in her summary that was a title that did not exist in corporate America. It was a title that she created based on what she would like to do in her next job. Well, that's great to go after what you want to do, but if the job you want is so esoteric and unessential, you won't receive interviews.
Your resume needs to be written in a manner that shows how you will solve a problem that a company has... otherwise, they have no need to hire you.
--> Her resume was written like an obituary. The document did not sell her as a solution to problems in her next company... no, in fact, it did the opposite. Her resume simply read like a biography of a dead person read by a person yearning for what she used to do. It was not written for the future... it was written for the past.
Companies want to hire live people... not dead people. Simple enough.
--> When you are doing a career change, the job boards are the worst place to look. I will show you where is the best place to look...
In essence, Anita was looking for her non-existent job using her dead-woman-walking resume in all the wrong places.
