Why your marketing should be like the Movies

Why your marketing should be like the Movies

There is a reason why people love watching movies. They entertain us. They inspire us to imagine and believe. They transform us. They let us escape to another world. They are filled with emotion. They have a storyline that keeps us hooked throughout.

I went and saw Wicked 2 nights ago and loved it. It had all the above and more. And that is what made think about this very topic.

Your goal with your marketing should be to tell a story. It should go further than just sharing what you do. No one cares what you do. You’ve heard it before. They care about how you can help them solve their problem

But it also needs to go beyond that now.

In a world filled with an abundance of choice, with ads dominating every screen we have, and with shorter attention spans, you need to cut through.

And you cut through by standing out and being different. Through your industry rule book out the day. Stop copying what everyone else is doing. Stop accepting the status quo and start to push the boundaries. Be a bit brave!!

So to add some sparkle to your marketing what are the ingredients you need?

  • You need to entertain - I’m not saying every piece of content needs to be like a movie but it should not be boring and it needs to have a level of entertainment value
  • It needs emotion - the human element that shares raw and real emotion is what makes people relate to you. And that is NOT something AI can do
  • It has a story - like a 🍿 movie, your marketing should take people on a journey. What was the transformation you’ve created for other clients from start to end? The challenges? How have you overcome them? The solution or win?

You don’t need all these elements in one piece of content. That would be pretty hard to achieve unless it’s longer form stuff. But creating individual pieces of content that is a mix of these elements, marketing will add some sparkle and help you look different.

This is an issue I see in a lot of industries, especially professional services. It all looks the same! Very few businesses actually stand out or look different. Sooo many websites have the same layout, some boring industry language, the same pages, and totally lack personality. Boring! Bland! Blah!!

If you really want to stand out then have a plan that includes:

  • Create a strong brand (with personality)
  • Have a strategy that is more than posting on social media
  • Ditch the industry jargon
  • Have a theme (take a look at my 80’s inspired website for inspo HERE)

But the key is to ….. actually do it and not just think about it !!
