Widener Library

Widener Library

Whenever you visit the east coast from the US, Cambridge is a must that should not be taken for granted. There, you can observe the footprint from four centuries of development in a twenty-minute walk, starting from the historic colonial antiquities to state-of-the-art facilities from some of the highest tech industries. It is such a diverse place that must be carefully observed with considerable time. Moreover, one of the first stops that people attend is the Harvard Yard, one of the historical remnants of an academic institution even older than the country itself. So much history is kept in those buildings, especially in many cool libraries.

The mystic Widener Library, where many great names in science, technology, politics, and entrepreneurship along the last centuries, sat in those heavy wooden chairs, and many outstanding ideas came through that quiet and ostentatious building. Inside, the first room you will see is the one that houses the book collection of a graduate who died in the sinking of the RMS Titanic a century ago.

Upstairs, it can be seen that many people from different ages and backgrounds are working on their essays, papers, presentations, or even scrolling on their phones, a typical picture in different libraries around the world. Therefore, I ask the reader why, apparently here, any idea can be staged in an entire project. If you compare this behavior with other non-exposed regions, it won't happen elsewhere. This characteristic is something that continually haunts me.

The Nobel Peace Prize of 2018, Nadia Murad, partially questioned that same argument, just adding that people in this kind of location have a stronger voice. Furthermore, she stated that this power should be used for the rest that does not have this right whatsoever. The source of great ideas should not come just from a few intellectual well-known clusters. Democratization is needed for the benefit of our future. Many of these great minds worldwide are waiting to be listened to in the most unpredictable places.
