“And the Winner is….CCEP Edmonton”

Amid the cheers of jubilation one voice rang louder than most, Richard Higginson, beaming with pride as he scooped Alan Alcott into the air, while proclaiming “17 Years of Gold Medals, what a record, fitting recognition and we are delighted to receive the RoSPA Award of Distinction”. When the cheers had subsided thankfully Mel Desouza was on hand to tell Richard to make sure he bends the knees and keep his back straight when liftingJ

Reflecting on the journey, 17 years of RoSPA Gold Awards clearly outlines the Site’s commitment to delivering a Zero Harm environment, one in which the Site community work together towards safe approaches that have become embedded as our ways of working.

The 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey, followed a voyage to Jupiter and depicted the many encounters and multifaceted challenges along the way. Drawing parallels, our journey began in 2001 and it would appear that we have picked up on a similar odyssey as Our Zero Harm approach has also dealt with themes of human involvement and interaction, advances in technology, growth of artificial intelligence and conflicting legislative conditions based our new equipment source country requirement. Across all these areas, we charted a course that would ensure all safety risks and challenges were considered and we identified a programme of activities that worked to develop Edmonton towards a safer place to work.

Congratulating the team, Edmonton QESH champion Steve Walters said: “We are here today to celebrate the achievement of our team in Edmonton and to thank each of them for their contribution over the last 17 years. It sounds simple but in essence what we set out to do is to improve health and safety standards to ensure everyone goes home safe. That takes more than just legislation and strong governance; it requires people to recognise the risk and be inspired and engaged to work together to find a safer approach. It’s also important to celebrate success as that is one of the very best ways of engaging people – in Edmonton we like to do it with a cake.

Back in Edmonton the Quartet were greeted loudly by Shaun Lansfield who unveiled the cake to the award winning team. Before passing the knife to Alan to slice, Shaun checked over his method statement and ensured the blade was retractable, thanks Shaun let’s make it SAFE (Safe Accident Free Environment).

Excellence, Every Day by Everyone – thank you for the part you played.
