Wishing you a happy International Women’s Day

Wishing you a happy International Women’s Day

Today marks an important day for every professional: International Women’s Day! We hope you’re celebrating the women at your company and in your life. At ButterflyMX, we’re not just focused on revolutionizing the way people interact with the space they live, work, and play; we’re also committed to improving diversity and inclusion in the tech industry by supporting and advocating for the women at ButterflyMX by giving women equal opportunities and encouraging their upward mobility.

Being a tech company, men have historically dominated the access control industry, but we're changing that standard by making a conscious effort to uplift the women of ButterflyMX.

But don’t just take our word for it! Let’s explore the role of women in tech and women at ButterflyMX.

Making room for women in tech

Tech is one of the most modern industries, but it’s also one of the least inclusive! Despite some growth over the past few years, women still only makeup around 32% of professionals in tech. While this is a negative, most obviously due to the lack of representation, it also leads to companies with undeveloped workplace cultures and business practices.

The world is by nature a diverse place. As a result, consumers are a diverse group. So, companies that prioritize opinions and ideas from only one gender prevent themselves from growing to their full potential. However, companies that prioritize diversity end up with ideas from people with more perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds. These companies, in turn, appeal to a larger audience who see themselves represented in your services!

Women + ButterflyMX

It’s no secret that the technology and access control industries are male-dominated. But by acknowledging this, ButterflyMX is able to consciously work towards diversity and inclusion internally to have an impact on the entire tech industry.

But don’t just take our word for it! Seanna Lockhart, Senior Product Manager, says, “Being a woman in technology to me means being open to and enjoying constantly learning and growing in a challenging industry.” And of ButterflyMX’s commitment to diversity, she says, “I have been fortunate to work with many amazing women in my current company and have grown professionally and personally so much through these connections. Each interaction can be an opportunity to grow and develop some part of your professional skill set, to provide some takeaway about the type of person you want to be.”

Welcoming women in the access control industry

There is still plenty of space to grow in terms of improving gender diversity in tech. So, what are some of the few of the things we’ve done at ButterflyMX to foster diversity?

Opting to hire a remote and distributed workforce allows ButterflyMX to consider a diverse range of candidates. Further, offering remote work roles provides more opportunities for women who wouldn’t otherwise be able to work in-person from an office. Our primarily remote workforce, made up of many women living across the U.S. and the world, has fortified our diversity.

In an effort to encourage our employees to have a healthy work-life balance, we’ve enacted a generous paid time off policy that empowers employees to take ample time off of work for vacations, personal days, and bereavement. Further, ButterflyMX offers a 12-week paid parental leave program to primary caregivers and a 4-week paid parental leave program to secondary caregivers based in the United States. This ensures that our employees and their families have plenty of support during such a significant time.

And to develop a work culture where employees feel included and valued, ButterflyMX hosts monthly company-wide team-building activities to strengthen the interpersonal relationships between employees.

There’s still plenty of room for improvement in the tech industry regarding gender equality, but ButterflyMX is making a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion in order to make a positive impact on the industry.
